Hey guys. I stumbled across this today looking at fares. If you can get to Denver and do not mind the red eye coming in, you can fly real cheap. Go to http://flyfrontier.com and put in Wednesday 8/6 - Tuesday 8/12 and you will see this fare. It leaves at 11:59 p.m. than Wednesday and arrives on Thursday Morning at 5:16 . This fare is also only $99 if you are taking it one way. The flight returns on Tuesday morning 8/12 and leaves SJO at 6:15. Not for everyone but a damn good price. Happy Flying.

$800 is the norm from Houston. I just don't get it.

When Continental merged with United they steadily started raising fares and also taking Continental's best aircraft and moving them to favored United routes.

At one time one could catch the Tuesday special and book a round trip from IAH to SJO for under $200 RT. No more, as they have also reduced the available aircraft so as to pack the planes ensuring more profit. It is business.

My hope is for Southwest to disrupt the monopoly in Houston and provide a suitable alternative, one can hope.

Agreed. Been here since 02 and the best price I ever found directly through the airline was $600. Can get around $400 with multiple days/stops on a travel website.
