Fans are going nuts here in Colombia, too...

Many think that sports fans in the States go "nuts" over their "local" favorite team! You have not seen anything till you see a whole country going nuts over "THEIR futbal team"!!!!!!! The busiest street (intersection) in Costa Rica was completely closed to traffic for over 2 hours by a sea of humanity yesterday!!!!! And no one seemed to get upset; not even the bus drivers who had to go many blocks out of their way, nor the passengers who were an hour later getting home!

that was so much fun yesterday. walked from barrio don bosco to the SL and people were glowing w national pride. what as cool thing to be a part of.
i'm always pretty careful in big rollicking crowds because there are always opportunists looking to pick your pocket or worse and i could see them out there as well. of course they would be. like hyenas wanting to pry one away from the herd.
l was out early and doubt i would have felt to comfortable as night fell.
still it was a great experience and one i might think would be hard to duplicate.
wish it was easier to post pictures on this site i took some good ones.

This was one incredible experience, after the game I had a 1pm business meeting in Sabana, I had to walk 6 blocks to catch a cab. It was happy enthusiastic mayhem wherever you went. I bought a CR flag and got in on the fun, waving it from the cab as we careened thru the maddening crowds and he kept honking his horn (as every car on the streets were doing same) He seemed a little confused why this gringo was getting in on it but we kept on as we neared my destination. At that time I dared not let anyone know I was Italian and normally view soccer as excruciatingly boring....

They will play on either Saturday the 28th, or Sunday the 29th (2:00 CR time), depending on games this
coming week. The chances are slim, but they could still finish in second place in Group D, as the first tie-breaker is goal differential within group play. In that scenario they would play on Saturday.

It's possible that they will play Colombia!

(Uruguay most likely will be without their star, Suarez, who should be suspended for biting
an Italian player in todays game. He's been suspended twice previously for biting while playing in the
European leagues. Uruguay is not the same team without him...Costa Rica beat Uruguay,
without Suarez, in their first game of the World Cup)
