YMMV.

Agreed. But a bad option is still an option.

I have a lot of "straight" friends and relatives who would strongly disapprove of mongering who have asked why I repeatedly visit Costa Rica when I used to travel all over before mongering got in my blood. I continue to tell them I love to hike (I really do) and every trip I spend 1 or 2 days in Mt.Arenal hiking and spending time in the hot springs. I continue to always take tons of pics on the hiking trails, the volcano and the hot springs. If the question comes up, why not that reasonable answer?

I lived in CR for 2 years 2007-2009. I would return to Florida every 90 days for my 3 day getaway. Once an American agent got in my face and confronted me, he asked "Are you now working there???" I kept a poker face and said no, (I was) I didn't say anything after that, it was a few second stare off contest. Luckily I had enough cash in my checking account at the time that if challenged I could say I have money and am just enjoying my time there, after a few seconds he gave up and passed me through...

Orange, what is this referring to?

US higher security is classed Secret / Top Secret, and then those are further segmented. Secret splits into CS and OS. I held OS (Ordinary Secret) clearance, which is the lowest 'higher' level. My knowledge is dated, but Top Secret segments into 'compartments', which used to be referenced by a color code ... don't know if it's still that way.

I don't know what G-14 is. I Googled it but I only get links for some kind of music genre.

G14 classified

A made up word used in a movie called 'Rush Hour' to make fun of a character played by Chris Tucker. G14 classified doesn't mean anything in real life but was made up on the spot in the 'Rush Hour' movie.

FBI Agent Adams: "Well, Carter, your particular assignment
is considered G14 classified."

FBI Agent 2:"G14 classified. That's good."

Detective Carter (played by Chris Tucker):"Y'all think this is real funny. Give Carter the big G14 classified case. I cannot believe this shit! First, I get a bullshit assignment,
now, Mr. Rice-a-Roni..."

thanks Steven ... I clearly need to get out more often.

Shame on you, Orange ... for duping a poor defenseless dwarf. Though it may have been 'beneath you' to do such, it was still 'over my head' ! :|

All of you must be talking about situations i don,t understand.First off, mongering traveling to another country is completely legal if you go after adults over 18.It also has been on another thread that if grilled by a customs agent,it,s better to tell the truth, you,re chasing chicas than lie and say your going to see volcanoes, etc.I,ll mention it again-it was a monger returning from Amsterdam-he lied and said he went to visit museums, windmills, etc and was grilled more and more until he finally got disgusted and just told the officer he went to f$%^ hookers, are you happy?Upon that answer officer gave him his passport back and said welcome home.

As generations of politicians and corporate chieftains have found out the hard way, the lie/cover-up almost always has harsher penalties than telling the truth and taking your lumps.

There,s no lumps to take,i think the CBP person just don,t like getting lied to especially when he was doing nothing wrong as a civilian.Btw i got my answer to what i didn,t understand from a friend who,s retired military after 20+ years. He told me what i,m reading about on this thread is security clearences and US govt positions and way different rules apply than to me as a civilian. He likened it to me when i was sent to dealer training out of town when i was working as a mechanic that it would be wise if i monger to get a different hotel room than the one my company rented for me if any drama happens,of course without the hassles of govt involvement since there,s no security clearence. So is that what the thread is about?Security clearence?

I went to visit friends is not a bad reply. My activities included site seeing, dining, practicing my Spanish, enjoying the weather (always spring), relaxing, getting away from stress.

I seldom get asked any questions, but occasionally I get asked what was the purpose of my trip. I tell them I have been enjoying retirement. One time, a guy asked if I had a girlfriend there. I told him no girlfriend, but friends who are ladies. It is not hard for them to figure out what I'm doing. I have 14 pages of stamps from Costa Rica and Colombia in 4 years (don't have any US stamps for the past 3 years because I have Global Entry). There is only one version of the truth; so if I tell the truth to start with, they are not going to trip me up no matter how many questions they ask.

no one is concerned about CBP questions. The OP was concerned about US Security clearance interviews. Many countries are considered 'veils' for unapproved activities, which weaken the integrity of applicants.
