I'm planning to visit Costa Rica and would like to go to the night clubs and try to pickup girls that way. Any advice on where to go? Where do non working girls hangout?

Before going any farther, "DO YOU SPEAK SPANISH"? Are you under 40? What age chicas are you wanting to meet? Can you do the Latin Dances? Are you at least part Latino?

A "No" to the first question just about puts you out of the game! Non pros are not interested in someone they can not communicate with- exception is if your are extremely good looking and they perceive you to be "very rich" and willing to spend!!! or if you happen to run into one that speaks some English (Odds are way against that happening)!! If you are under 40 and good looking, your chances go up a little. Don't expect to find a non-pro chica 20 years younger than you-very unlikely to happen!! Most non pro chicas go to the clubs and bars to dance, if you can not do the Latin dances you will find yourself setting in a corner watching the chicas dance with someone who can!! Seldom will you find a non pro Tica (Costa Rican female) who is interested in any guy who is not Latina (unlike Colombianas and other nationalities).

Now if you still want to try and think you have a chance: The clubs in el Pueblo are popular with chicas, Also Castros on the edge of barrio Mexico, and the Jazz Café in San Pedro. I have heard of there being several places in the Escazu area but I am not familiar with any of them. Maybe someone who lives out in that area can recommend some places there. There are bars/local night spots in virtually every barrio and in every town surrounding San Jose where the chicas in those areas tend to go!!! One problem with any place where non pro chicas are likely to be found is you will probably be the only Gringo in the place and often the TICOS for not take to fondly to a Gringo perceived as trying to hook up with one of "their" chicas!!

Thanks

I am Mexican/American, Spanish is my native language since my parents don't speak English, so I know I will blend in, in college I hooked up with a tica, but my Spanish and her Spanish was not the same and neither were our accents. I know the locals will figure out I'm still from out of town once I speak. I do stand 6'2" that might not help either , I am under forty but can't dance salsa to save my life. Looking for bars/nightclubs in 25-35 age group

No, you won't. :) Unless you're referring to your appearance?

How long are you planning to stay in town? If you're only going for a few days, I wish you luck with your quest.

If you do plan to stay for a while, try BB57's suggestions or:

Bars along Calle de la Amargura (mostly college girls)
Luxe in Escazu
Dolce in Escazu
Latino Rock Café in San Pedro
Vertigo's, Casablanca or Rapsodia in the Paseo Colon area
Chichi's or Mas Tekila (locations in San Pedro and Escazu)

Nonpro girls in SJO don't typically hook up and go home with any handsome devil they happen to run into at a club - even a tall foreigner who speaks Spanish. If they do, odds are they are working girls who happen to be out on the town. Be aware you'll be expected to "pagar la fiesta" if you do manage to get a tica to go out with you. For her AND her friends. :)

Good luck,

mh

Thanks MH for filling in some of the places!! You can really tell I am an "old Fat" (71), I ride by the Latina Rock café (it is also owned by a gringo) every time I go to town and did not think about it  And one of my favorite lunch places is Buffaloes on Calle de Amargura which I also pass almost everyday. reddrum26 this is a major street leading (one way) out from the Main UCR campus and is lined with bars, sodas, and restaurants which if they are open there are coeds!!

The other points MH added are also spot on!!! Speaking Spanish and being Latino will help, but certainly not guarantee you success !

Thanks for the advice gentlemen, like I said I know as soon as I speak my my accent will give me away. All Latinos speak Spanish but the Spanish accents from Mexicans, Puerto Rican, Cubans, Salvadorians etc they are not the same. Just like in the states you can tell the difference when someone is from New york or Georgia, it's English but it's a different you know what I mean.
I'll be there for two weeks, will see how it goes, if all fails then I can always monger down there

Castro's does 'American' disco on Friday-Sunday evenings, and has been packed the times I have been there. During the week is less people and they are all performing the different Spanish dances.

The times I have gone I always had a chica in tow, but it didn't seem to me a place to 'meet' unattached women. It seemed more of a 'couples/group' type place, where no one goes alone.

correction

Sorry, old age fart!!! God I love being old and having an excuse for all my mistakes

In my post yesterday (a couple posts back from here) I said that Calle del Amargura was one way leading out from the UCR Campus--IT IS ONEWAY INTO THE UCR AREA
I also said that Buffaloes was on Calle del Amargura -- It is on Calle central (Jose Maria Munoz) which IS the street leading OUT from the UCR Campus! Calle Central is the street that goes left off AVE Central between the Park and the Church; Calle del Amargura is 2 blocks on east!!

Sorry for the mistake!!

By the way, this area is very easy to get to buy bus! Any of the San Pedro buses just down from the REY go there!! And there is a bus stop going and coming on the corner of AVE CENTRAL AND CALLE CENTRAL Right beside the Park and the Church!! This area is about 3 blocks east of the Mall de San Pedro.

Worth a shot for you based on your self description Younger, fluent Spanish - don't get hung up on accents - the average gringo speaks zero Spanish; you are going to be head and shoulders over them - while I think guys with a heavy redneck accent are jack offs, and sound dumb, I can certainly understand them) .

HOWEVER, the vast majority of those who come down wanting to do what you are seeking are disappointed - face it; nice girls are nice girls the world over, and as a rule - which there are exceptions - they are looking for a relationship, not a one night stand.

If you tell the truth, that you are in essence a tourist, here for a couple of weeks, your chances further go down.

Up to you, but you can Phuck beautiful girls for +/- $60 in your room, and even cheaper in a massage parlor - why anyone would go through the hassle of what you are contemplating is beyond me (just the thought of being in a Disco like Castro's, with the crush of people, the LOUD music is not my thing)

Realize too that the majority of Costa Ricans live home with their family's until married, and its a traditional society - the main thing to remember is non pro's are not interested in a tourist down for a vacation.

Don't get me wrong - can it happen - sure - will it - not likely.

Why not just go to the Key Largo? I described it to one of my buddies who never mongered. I told them it's like when we went to discos in the mid 70's, the only difference is although we're older but we can have any of the beautiful women we want !!!

It's like that bull joke; A young bull says to his father as they are standing on a ridge, hey dad, let's run down to where those cows are and f*ck some of them !!!! The father says "No, son, we'll walk down there and f*ck ALL of them !!!"

He might have a prayer, being younger, Mexican and speaking Spanish, who knows, he might be a silver tongue devil... A buddy of mine, short, chubby and mid 50's, not Spanish and can't speak it kept going on and on about this very subject his first visit. He has a delusional big ego and kept bragging he could pick up a non working girl because he was good at this game 30 plus years ago in the clubs. I told him Costa Rica boys/men in these clubs would probably beat his ass if he got in their girls faces...and he'd probably wake up the next morning face down in the parking lot wallet and passport missing

Hopefully with a dildo sticking out of his ass......I am amazed at the number of delusional idiots one encounters in Costa Rica - A real Don Juan - NOT

PS The bull joke is a good one, even if the first time I heard it I fell off my dinosaur :P :P

Speaking of delusions, the OP is under one so the KL is out - almost all pro's there - he's looking for a non pro - but its a good suggestion.

I usually enjoy reading your posts and respect your opinions but I must call you out on the " guys with heavy redneck accents are jack offs" remark. I don't know your personal story and really don't need to. I am not from a redneck back round and do not consider myself one but I find that remark offensive based upon your feelings about how people speak. I wonder what you feel about those from New York City or Boston who speak in their own accent which is much different from most of the US. Just because some one speaks with a particular accent does not make them a "jack off".

Without boring every one with the reasons, I moved here in 2007 and stayed 2 years through 2009. I was 55 at the time but being an ex joc, going to the gym 3x a week and inheriting my mother's youthful looks, I looked 45. Still, that's ancient in the USA for women in their 20's and even 30's. My intentions were strictly for mongering, yet I discovered some young non working Ticas liked me and I asked out women who worked at AM-PM, restaurants and bars I went to as well as women I met on the bus, I would always try to sit next to a cutie. I speak clumsy broken Spanish/ Spanglish and understand more (if they speak slow) than I can speak.

To my surprise, I got quite a few yes's and quite a few free poundings. Only one asked me for some cash (after our date and I brought her back to my apartment, I agreed because she was smoking hot and only wanted $50, plus I was a horny dog anticipating the culmination of our date... nonetheless I was surprised, she never mentioned it)

I've talked to other mongers in their 50's and even 60's who experienced the same phenomena, they came here to monger ho's but discovered they can get dates with non working girls. If he's a suave and debonair smooth talking under 40 tall Spanish speaking Latin guy, he has a shot! Good luck amigo, the good news is if you get turned down by all of the ones you hit on you can relieve your needs with one of our girls and probably get a great GFE, close enough !!!! :D 8) :P

Actually, I am fascinated by accents - and yes, you are correct that just having one, of and in itself does not make a person "smarter" or "dumber"

In my experience, I've found those who would speak with what we can term a redneck accent (since I'm writing, its tougher to sound it out - I'm not speaking about a southern accent) seem to revel in drinking and being ignorant - a great example is the comedy of - sorry, my mind just went blank - the guy famous for "You might be a redneck if........"

Just stating my feelings - never my intent to offend :) Thank you for your kind word at the start of your post :)

I think bb57 and MH?scuba(2 people i like to disagree with at times) are giving you great advice.
On recent trips to jaco i have met some older women in on my morning walks even with language problems.
Some were more then willing to meet after work for a drink(they were not the best looking)but then i see the girls coming into cocal and i think why bother. My friend who lives here(i see her sister when in CR)told me all women want gringos. She said while its possible its not probable to find them in there local clubs. Its there night out and they want to have fun not be impressed by men gringos or local. She claims its easier to meet them at work, bus stations and malls.
