We all know there is a train cruising through San Jose, but I can't find a website for it. Where does the train go? Is it in and around CR or does the train go to other parts of CR?

I am curious if I can take it AND return to SJO in the same day.

Any info or website is appreciated.

Many thanks.

In case you meant the commuter train, here's the site with fares and schedules:

There is a good bus ride to Cartago also. You may want to look into that. You may see more local color, inside and outside, on the bus ride compared to the tren ride. Or, better yet, ride one going and the other coming back.

on the way down to Manuel antonio i see the tracks that appear to no longer be maintained. it looks like it would be a great way to go and fairly scenic.
i'm sure someone knows why it no longer runs that way.

I believe there is a weekend train from San Jose to Puntarenas as well. you might want to do a search about the details.

Carlos told me in the past the train ran to beaches but was much slower than a car or bus.

I believe you were looking for a shorter, on-point answer but here's a history of railroading in CR. Happy hunting: http://costaricarailroad.blogspot.com/ << the route to Puntarenas is also covered.
