On my last stay at the ML the batteries went bad in the safe and I could not open it. I contacted the desk and one of the managers came up with the Master Key. He opened the safe and replaced the batteries. When I tried to open the safe my combination no longer worked. He then explained any time a master key is inserted the combination is cleared and automatically resets itself to a default combination. I had to reset the safe and enter a new password. It was at this point I remembered having a similar situation at another hotel several years ago. I inquired and the manager said yes any time a master key is used it resets to a default combo for all of these type of safes. Bottom line if a master key is used on your safe you will not be able to open it, Guy I will see you in a couple of weeks and I will have no worries using the in room safe.
I stayed there when it was AMON PLAZA and they replaced my safe cause the batteries were dead. The only hotel I have ever had this problem
