Based on what I can tell, there's not much action around the Real Intercontinental. I don't have a choice and will have to stay there.

Is my only option to get a taxi to downtown or am I missing something that might be closer by in the area (Tango India perhaps?)? It'll be my first time in CR so something newbie friendly is preferred.

You'll have a better selection downtown........ at ScoreS or Zona 2 or SL or the Del Rey.

ScoreS and Zona 2 have VERY NICE short-term rooms.

There is a hot-sheet hotel directly across Avenida 1 from the entrance to the Del Rey. It's called Hotel Paradise (formerly Hotel Queen). $12 for 2 hours. Clean rooms, clean sheets and towels, with a shower in the room. Porn on the TV.

If you take a girl from the Rey, exit the Rey through one of the 2 exits on Calle 9 (not the Ave. 1 exit ) so the guard doesn't see the girl going directly into Hotel Paradise. Rumor has it that girls who go to Hotel Paradise will get banned from working in the Rey.

Everything RAC said is true. Be carful if you go to Tango India , nice place good looking girls. It's a strip club , and in Costa Rica that means very expensive!!! Never run a tab. And ask before ordering the price of every drink. Some clubs the price changes from round to round.

Wow...that's tough to take  The Real Intercontinental...used to be called the Camino Real years ago. It's one of the best hotels around San Jose. They have a very strict guest policy. The Tango India is in Uruca, not too far from the Intercontinental. The Tango India is OK if you want to drop $400 or $500 in a couple hours. Take a taxi to the Hotel Del Rey downtown. You can get a chica and a room (not there) for $100 total. You can get a room at either the Hotel Asia (a block away), or at the Hotel Paradise (mentioned in a previous post), which is across the street from the Hotel Del Rey. The room will cost between $12 and $20. You will be going from perhaps a five-star hotel to a zero-star, but you aren't there for the atmosphere or amenities...you're there to get laid. Another option would be to get a room ($50 to $60) at the Hotel Morazan, which is a block from the Del Rey. It would be a 'step up' from the two aforementioned hotels.
When you leave to return to the Intercontinental, avoid getting a taxi in front of the Del Rey, unless you don't mind paying about twice as much for the ride. Walk about a block away and hail a taxi.

I hear you - but wrong place to stay if you want girls on property or take them back to your room. So you know that, and knowing something is the first step to knowledge  :P :) :) :)

Also forget Tango India - rip off place

So go to plan B - Many Massage Parlors in San Jose - do a search - and you will be able to accomplish what you seek

Next time have your corporate meeting/conventions at the Morazan Park Hotel. Scuba1 has all the connections.
Their nightly floor show features Rick Ricardo and his band. :D   :P :P
