Hi all, was recently in CR and had a great time. Booked a flight back for week of Easter and then heard the entire night scene in SJO starting Thursday into Sunday is pretty dead. Can anyone verify this who has been there for Easter before? Again, I could reschedule the flight but would only do so if general consensus here is that it will be a complete wash. Thanks.

Thursday April 17 and Friday April 18 will be dead. Many (almost all) business will be closed. Many, many people including many of the chicas go to the beach for holiday. Probably the two slowest days-maybe 2 of the 3 including Christmes day--of the year as for as chica numbers are concerned. Friday (Good Friday) and Christmes are the only two days all MPs close. Saturday will be more of a normal business day but still few chicas since many will still be at the beach or with families. Sunday April 20 will be very slow. For tourists coming here for chicas and looking for night life you would be much better off to stay at home. During the day most MPs will have chicas except for as mentioned Thursday and Friday.

If you live here or have been here many times and know chicas and have their contact info finding chicas to come see you is not really a problem just smaller numbers will be available. I have lived here for 8 years and have never had a problem finding a chica to come to my place even on Friday, but living here I also have a couple hundred numbers to call in order to find one!! I already have a couple of chicas lined up to spend time with me that week.

A friend and I were discussing this just a couple days ago. We were in agreement that except for maybe Friday there are always a small handful of chicas looking for work in the REY and the SL and though there are very few, there will also be almost no guys--selection will be slim but the ratio of chicas to guys will be in the guys favor. As a tourist, and especially if you are looking for a lot of excitement and partying in places at night, I would change my dates if I were you!!!!

The week before will be much better (until Friday, April 11 which actually is the starting day of Samana Santa) because many chicas will be trying to make the last minute money for going to the beach!! The week after will also be much better--the chicas will be back and will be broke and in serious need of money!!!

I was in SJ last semana santa. Arrived on good friday and stayed at the former HLH. They had a few chicas working there. Went to the Rey in the evening and surprisingly there were quite a few chicas there. It was slower than normal but the ratio of chicas to guys was in your favour. Saturday was back to normal at the MPs and the Rey. Overall had a good time. My penis was happy. :D

cheers,
Attila

Sounds like a perfect time to head to the beach and be discreet. If you speak spanish fluently you will have fun.

Very true!! Except for one little problem!! Finding a hotel room, especially at this late date, would be virtually impossible!!! Many hotels in the more popular beaches are booked a year in advance!!! Mi amiga that is going to Nicaragua with me the 9th thru the 13th has a standing (every year) reservation at a hotel in Puntaranus . Her family is going on the 11th and she will join them the night of the 13th. And yep, if you were there and found her, I am sure she would be glad to take care of you (for a price)!!!

Mi amigo, I agree with you totally-for someone that has been here several times and knows the scene here (you). For someone who has been here one time; NOT so much!! JMHO

Thanks for all the replies. One other question, I stayed at SL last trip but this time they don't have the mansion room I had last time. I'm considering testing out the Amistad. It's either that or a Junior Suite at SL. What are everyone's thoughts on the Amistad if directly compared to SL (room comparison only as not having women on site in my opinion may actually be a plus). Thanks again.

SuperNoob,

I'd enthusiastically recommend that you try LaAmistad. Take a look at their all-in-one package (damn, I forget what they call that). It includes all meals, and most alcohol (I think it doesn't include 'top shelf' stuff). Anyway it's a good deal and the food there is great.

I'd also like to suggest that you try Dunn Inn some day. Lovely place. No girls hanging at the bar there too.

Zona II and Scores too! get a shot at each place, see what you think. Lastly I'd recommend Mona Lisa. Solid place but issues with wi-fi, lack of girls, food, what-not. Still, affordable place to stay. And has many things going for it.

All that said, I freaking love SL...been going there for years. To me it is home. But you need to see what else is out there and make up your own mind.

Dont forget the CRT VIP discounts at many of the places (all, actually) that I've mentioned.

Next trip, stay at LA but walk down to Zona, Scores, Dunn Inn, Mona Lisa, and ask for room tours, get a feel for the places.

Also don't forget what might be called the 2nd tier venues like the Hemingway, the Castillo, even the Freebird. A bit of pioneering/ down-scaling spirit might be required but the point is to get to SJO and taste the pleasures and virtues (I use that term without blushing)--with the right spirit, the venue is secondary (I'm a fan of the Dunn Inn, BTW). Have grand fun, Bro.

Very true - if you have the option visit another time; plus wit the ban on liquor sales (which really affects some; not me - its not a good time to visit for a variety of reasons  ) - also avoid the week between Christmas and New Years, although the early part of December can be a good time.

PS You are on the right track posting and asking for info and assistance - but probably a better idea to do so BEFORE YOU BOOKED THE FLIGHT.

I wish you the best, but the old saying "You don't know what you don't know" really applies her - even if you have to "eat" a $100 change fee - book another time.

If you have favoritas, and a list of names, and some experience, anytime you visit can work for you - but for most Easter is the worst and Christmas is a close 2nd - I was in country for Easter, and left for Panama

I went over Easter weekend last year. It wasnt bad but its definitely not the ideal time to be there. Lots of places are closed but the hotels and freelance chicas are still open for business. My thought is that if you already have the flight booked and the time off, might as well go because you'll still have fun.

Also, Attila is right. I dont think they ever stopped serving alcohol at the bars last year.

That's pretty much how I would describe it. If you have free choice of when to come to CR, and you're coming to monger, picking Semana Santa is a bad decision. However, if that's the only time you have free, and the choice is staying in the US (or wherever) vs. coming down to CR, you'll always have a good time in CR.

It's a quiet week, especially for Thursday and Friday, but there are girls available. The plus side is that a lot of guys have already learned this and avoid Semana Santa like the plague. That means that even though there are few girls, there are also very few guys. And most of the girls that are out are very hungry.

You kind of have to take Semana Santa for what it is, and adopt a "glass is half full" attitude. I have never failed to hook up during Semana Santa.
