cheap and good years ago....just overrated ..overpriced weird shit now...at one time they would send down for a nice fish etc at the Mercado..took awhile but good...those days are gone with the wind..just a bunch of half ass glop remains plastered to ones plate and wallet.. a smattering of tico lunch crowd suckingup something an addled granny might concoct..

I'm inclined to agree with that. The Soda Peru has indeed gone downhill the past couple of years. The last time I was there, late last year, we had to wait about 50 minutes for our food. Granted it was the lunch hour, and the place was full of Ticos, but it never used to take that long.

There is a period of time during lunch when it does take a while. I attribute this to all the delivery orders they must prepare as well. I've seen the guy on the motorcycle leave with 6-10 meals, come back 10 minutes later and load up again.

La Criollita is a good alternative to Soda Peru. It's on Avenida 7, in the shadows of the INS Building, one block from Parque Morazon. You can waive to the trannies on the corner when you leave at night.

Service is fast, even during lunch hours when it is packed with local office workers. Prices are good, food is good, and (not to hijack this thread) the WIFI there is strong.

Another thing.......La Criollita is open in the evenings until about 9 pm. It's a nice place to take the girls, if you're so inclined. They have a very nice outside jungle garden dining room in the back (side) that has an aviary with live birds.

Bro Rac mentioned La Criollita--here's a picture gallery (click on pic to enlarge): http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_R ... _Jose.html << not that he didn't paint a good word picture...

I agree with Rac on La Criollita, I had never posted about this place because I had forgotten the name.
It was 18 months ago on my 9th visit to SJ. I remember making a mental note to return for drinks and dinner.....so much for the mental notebook...lol, very pleasant place with good food.
