At the outset, quite a remarkable job all of you have done. Everything here, once read and digested makes me feel less of a newbie than I know I am.

Am planning a visit (my first) later on this year around Thanksgiving. Plan to be around from 11/27 (late night arrival) to 12/4 (afternoon departure). In addition to the main attractions on offer, was hoping to take these day tours into some wilderness (beaches, mountains and such). I have this thing for photography that I must attend to as well 8) . Which days of the week tend to be the most slack (in terms of action in SJ)?

I plan to do a couple of day trips outside SJ during my much anticipated sojourn there. Would appreciate any inputs on this (to enable me finalizing my project plan  ).

Hope to meet a lot of the members when I get there.

Thanks in advance!!

Warm Regards,
Ken

Also, a hotel (up to $75 daily, taxes included) where I can be absolutely sure of getting reliable high speed internet (wi-fi). I am a trader, so in the gaps (and energy) that I will (hopefully :D ) find between the physical exertions, I hope to be repairing my balance sheet; from the tear caused by the launch into succumbing to the long pending wishes of junior :P .

By the way, my planned return is 12/6, and not 12/4, as I have erroneously mentioned in my earlier (and first) post.

Warm Regards,
Ken,

If you plan on visiting a National Park such as Manuel Antonio, they are closed on Mondays.

Fellow Travelers,

The Sunday I will be in is the last day of the month (11/30). I read somewhere here that Sundays ending with month-ends are particularly busy (rent payments and other month end financial woes for the ladies).

Is this accurate?

Thanks in advance for your inputs.

I'm not sure about your advice above re: Sundays @ months-end, but I do know that Sundays are by far the worst day of the week for mongering. Most MP's are closed, & the ones that are open have a skeleton crew of the "D" list girls. The Sportmens Lodge & Hotel DelRey have a few girls in the afternoon, & I emphasize few. At night the SL & DR pick up a bit so you will have a fair selection at best. The KeyLargo will be almost empty later on. My advice:get outta town on Sunday if ya wanna check out other parts of Costa Rica!

Sundays should also have by far the least amount of traffic, which can be very beneficial for traveling out of San Jose.

Even though it's a resort town, I'd say "Yes". Reason being that CR is a Catholic country and Sunday is a day for families. I'd love to be proved wrong...

If you are arriving on Sunday, you will be busy getting to a hotel and getting situated. Day trips are available through most hotel desks. Getting action on Sunday depends on many things. (Expectations, willingness to spend, planning) all come into play. Late night arrival, depending on how late leaves the Del Rey and Key Largo as the best bets. If you are going to be in town for a week starting on a Sunday you have plenty of time to site-see and monger both. Most find that even on the best days for talent, a break of a day or most of a day is a good idea. There are women out there most of the time to be found if you know how and where to look. Early in the day after about 10am the massage parlors are usually the best place for a rookie to start. Early afternoon until about 6:30pm it is mps and a walk through the Sportsman's or Del Rey. Evenings the action is in the Sportsman's and Del Rey. 10pm and later the Del Rey, Key Largo and strip clubs. Hotels with wifi available at least in the bars are the Sportsman's Lodge, L'Amistad, Dunn Inn and I don't know for sure about others. Price range of $75 will get you a basic room in most hotels. Prices for women range from $20 for 1/2 hour in low end mps to over $100 per hour depending on your negotiating skills. You have months to plan. Start by reading as much as you can on the forum and getting an idea of what you want. Many come here looking for a trophy, service is secondary. They can be found easily at the Del Rey. You will usually get a rushed session with many rules. I'd rather see Manuela. Others come looking for love. Can't tell you how many guys wife up with the first chica that shows the attention they have been dying to get in the states. I don't know how experienced you are at this but if you are new at this game I would recommend seeing at least 3 or 4 at the better mps, picking one from the Del Rey because she is the hottest woman you have every been with, then picking several if you can find them based on forum discussions of their service. Take the service you receive and pay them what you can negotiate the service for. Remember it is a game. Don't get pissed if she gets to the room and you are disappointed. She provides a service and you have the right to not like her service, not use her in the future and write reviews of her service. Finding a wingman with some experience is invaluable. The Sportsman's Lodge and L'Amistad are usually easy places to find someone willing to show you the ropes. Sit at the bar and start a conversation and you will get offers for all the help you can stand, may not be expert recommendations but they will tell you something. By the way Jaco is slowest on Sundays. More than half the girls working there commute from San Jose for Thurs., Fri., Sat. action and return to San Jose on Sunday. Hotel prices will be significantly higher in Jaco than San Jose because it is a beach town. Your trip is during the rainy season and hotel rooms probably will be a little more than $75. Jaco is not a good location to go to monger on a day trip because you would need a room, and the Cocal doesn't really crank up until the evening. GFE is harder to find there because the girls are there to make money first and party later. Jaco has little day action, mainly pool at Cocal which is hit and miss. I recommend not trying to plan too much before you get here, just do research, then play it by ear.

Thanks a ton, Pops !!

That was extremely insightful and useful. I am a complete newbie as far as CR is concerned, though have sampled this elsewhere in the world. Been reading up on all the posts here, and slowly getting a (theoretical) hang of the lay of the land in CR. OF course, nothing beats practice, so....

Will be coming in on Thursday (11/27) late night, and leave the following Saturday (12/06) in the PM. Will probably allocate the Sunday and another day for non-mongering activities, like taking trips to the volcano nearby and the biological reserve (the name escapes me). I also need to nurse my other passion for photography, so am guessing this will take care of that.

Thanks again for the advice

Don't forget to cruise our "...Dependable drivers..." Forum. Then you will come back to PM's to our Bros One Lucky Dogg (OLD) or PuraVidaTransit (PVT). Especially for your photo desires, you want a custom driver, not an off-the-shelf tour company. Not prescriptive here, just descriptive.

Thanks JazzboCR !

Talking of photography; how safe is it for me to get my stuff there? I have a ton of stuff (Camera body, 5-6 lenses, Filters and all that good stuff) that totals to more than 20k in value. Would the hotel hold this for me? I am guessing the safe they provide in the rooms is certainly cramped enough not to accommodate all that stuff. And then, if the latter(hotel holding my stuff) is true, how safe would it be for me to park my stuff with the hotel?

And, even before that phase, would the CR customs bother me on this? I think not, but you never know.

As always, thanks in advance for the insight :D
