there's a few recurring themes here, covered ad nauseum, so for the capsule version:

1) whatever your personal opinion of Cubadave is the evidence seems to be incontrovertible based on his history that every business he touches in any significant way suffers for it in some way. The attention he garners is not good for the hobby, although it can help orient some newbies. His specific information is crap, and we all know this.

2) CRT used to be a community, and now it's a full on business. People who keep looking to regain the community need to recognize the reality of the change. It's really as simple as that. To move backwards in time it would be necessary to create a new grassroot site, and put community over economics. The appetite doesn't seem to be there or those that have tried it have not used the right approach, so far. Thhis whole thread Admin 3 has talked about building the site and driving membership. Nothing has been said about building a better community or about driving better information. Again, we need to recognize this and either use CRT for what it now is or walk. My attendance is much less because to be quite frank the information here is almost utterly useless now.

3) The whole Facebook thing is so assinine that I have a hard time believing it's even coming up on a monger forum. To promote it, and to attempt to popularize what is at its heart is a discreet hobby displays such a fundamental disconnect between ownership and membership that it boggles the mind. The business has to understand what its customers want and to promote core values that reflect the needs of the clients. Facebook in no way reflects what the membership wants, and they seem to be saying it loud and clear. Admn 3 keeps going on about the technocal aspects of the problem, and I fully agree that much of what he says is true. It just simply doesn't apply here. It's not a technical issue, it's a cultural issue.

Well summarized Shadowman. It seems like our efforts to gain ownership and managment's attention on this issue is producing results. Like you say, the highest value of CRT is the power of its membership participation and as Sportsmans, La Armistad, Scores and Zona II have seen, it can boost your business when the membership backs and supports their marketing efforts. This is what motivates other businesses to want to advertise on CRT.

However, to attract, motivate and retain active members, the CRT website must provide them with information and an experience they cannot easily find elsewhere. The quality of the information is directly related to the level of the motivation of savvy members to share their experience with other members, and only a small amount comes from the direct advertising or discounting offered by sponsors. The quality of the entertainment / learning experience is a result of the quality of the discusions amongst the members (savvy and newbies) in providing relevant on-the-ground information and rebutting misinformation, plus the challenges resulting from differing points of view and/or personal experiences while in Costa Rica.

While the rebutting can get out of hand, the over zealous behavior of Admin 3, a/k/a Don Carlos seems to have caused many older and experienced members to drop out of posting on CRT, so the membership has suffered from a lack of quality information in 2013. The Owners and Management of CRT seem to now get this. They see the value of maintaining and supporting the CRT community.

However, the fun which came from the layout and functionality of the old photo galleries seems to have been foresaken and as a result it seems that no one but Admin 3 is posting pictures today. Many of us wish The Admin would take another look at restoring the touch and feel of the old photo gallery so that members might once again start posting photos like they did before. The old galleries provided entertainment as well as a wealth of information from both the photos and the comments which members would make about each one. The new photo gallery format we have today is more like what you might see on a travelogue website instead of a mongering website. If you agree with me on this, you might want to send The Admin a PM expressing your point of view.

I'm not a follower of CubaDave, and has criticized his obsession of Passions, but I agree with him that Sosua has changed. Don't get me wrong, you can still pick up plenty on the strip but the vibe is not the same with the boarding up the bars and the closure of some of the Bj shacks etc.

I may have missed something here but that is not cubadave, just some other guy trying to promote his website. For the record I am not a fan of Cubadave and agree his form and information do not help business or people in the long run.

Cuba Dave never liked the independent scene much...He preferred to pull from Passions and CMP and wife up. With these venues shut down... not surprised he wasn't thrilled. The closing in of the venues is of course absurd... and will likely hurt the scene somewhat. The Buzz is that the Boca Chica scene may be on an resurgent upswing ... maybe the next destino in the DR

I'd skip Boca Chica if I was you. Altho I like the Duarte(sp) street scene, that place is full of hardened hos and thieves--seems like there are so many better places on this planet. Of course, YMMV

minor hijack: I'm always amazed at the video groupings YouTube puts together. Here we have CubaDave in a bunch with different type of visitors to a way different country: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZwN9K-EXfs
Back to you, Chet.

Curious why CD doesnt post here when his best bud is an Admin. Especially now that his disenchantment with Sosua has found him back in CR. He is still logging on ... Last log in was 27 March (last Thurs)

I truly don't know why you've picked me as a target but it works in reverse--Bros who were indifferent to me before now support my efforts, and seemingly think less of you. Did you grow more feet so you'd have more targets?
