Just got back last night from a pleasant stay at the Copacabana in Jaco. To confirm, the CRT VIP discount is on again from now until Christmas when high season begins. Just book your stay on the website or the 800# with Barbara at the regular rates of that day. Then when you get to the Hotel, check in and then see Leo with your VIP card for him to notate your discount and waive of the $20 chica fees. If you do it any other way, you may NOT get the discounts or chica fees waived! This is an "unofficial" program at the property...and "management special" for CRT if you will. If you follow these guidelines and bahave in a professional and gentlemenly manner...you should have NO issues at this fine and conveniently located hotel on the beach.

Being one block from the Beattle Bar, I can report that even now during "off season", the bar is packed with ladies waiting to "serve" you. Also, the Los Suenos golf course was in better shape than ever...with a $60 twi light rate including cart after 2PM...the best value for getting on that areas only golf course.

FOr the surfer crowd and younger set, the new Monkey Bar there was also packed every night and seems to be the joint for non pros.

Dont quote me, but I believe current rack rates are $69 standard, $99 Suite. Another VIP was there this past Friday and the Suites were sold out, so you better reserver early if you want a suite. VIPs get 20% off and waive of $20 chica fees IF you talk to Leo the GM. Have fun.

Does anyone know if Leo will accept VIP for any type of discount (Chica fee, etc) for January 2006?

What the hell are you guys missing??? The Copa has marginal quality going for it-- at a Premium Price, ....and even the locals admit that Tio Leo has marginal social/business skills, at times. I say this, not only from my personal experience with this establishment on, at least, four occasions, but also from what many of the local business owners, that I have become acquainted with in the last 5 years(longer than Leo has been there), have related to me. Altho, it is true that I have not stayed there in a year, maybe Leo's health problems in the past year have mellowed him, but I will never know, as I will never go back there again after giving it 4 chances since Larry owned it. The discount is on, the discount is off (having asked him personally on two different occasions) depending on the mood of Leo. I know that I have ragged on this hotel in the past, incessantly, and will not stop until I hear differently, from the locals, that some transformation in the management has occurred. Having an extensive background in the hospitality industry, I continue to be amazed at the continueing support of this establishment by the administration of this board. I am sure that the administrators are treated grandly, however, I KNOW that the hospitality, thereafter, is haphazard, at best. I apologize to the administrators of this board for being such a thorn in the side to one of their sponsors, but I am only speaking how I objectively feel about a hotel, where I have had/ and listened to so many negative experiences. Feel free to delete this post, if you must,....however, if this is an open forum, I feel that this post should be available for review and consideration by the general forum...be it right or wrong

The group (Total 10 men - 7 of which are customers) I am with, going to Jaco for fishing and then to the gulch for hunting, is a businees trip.....sort of. The price difference between hotels is not too critical as the hotels will be on expense account.

We made this same trip one year ago and stayed at the Copa and fished out of Los Suenos. Everyone......to a man....enjoyed the Copa and had a great time. The easy access to the BB was a plus as some wanted to go out and some wanted to stay and drink by the pool bar.

Diablo, what alternative would you reccomend for Hotel in Jaco? In January of 2003, we stayed at the Hotel Cocal. It was OK, but not much going on at night except for the Casino, which was of no real interest to anyone.

Again, the CTR forum continues to provide good solid information and well thought out opinions

My personal fave is the Tangeri, which I have detailed in the past. I have had a dozen plus positive, week to 2 week, experiences at this hotel. They are a somewhat conservative organization, however they allow chicas with no fees, but expect that you are respectful of their other guests, which should go without saying. Another benefit is the availability of villas that will accomodate groups and are fully outfitted. This is definately not a luxuty resort, but reasonably priced, beautifully landscaped, right on the ocean, peaceful, with comfortable rooms, three swimming pools, centrally located, close to the BB, and a step above your average Tico hotel. For your touring and adventure activities they now have the Golden Rod, run by a gringo by the name of David Shulda. From fishing to whatever, this guy is on top of it. He is more like the concierge of the hotel than a tour operator. Tell him Fabio sent ya ( won't get you a discount, but a source of reference for him).
Once again, if you choose this hotel, please be respectful and not ruin a good thing.

I've seen this place from the outside, looked really nice. But I wasn't sure what their chica policy was. If they are somewhat liberal about that, it looks like it would be my choice.

Last I talked to Leo, the room discount is only offered during offseason. But...if you talk to Leo, the $20 visitor fees are still waived for CRT VIPs. I am assuming that we are now in high season.

As for me, it is still my fav place to stay in Jaco. Walk out to the beach and crawl home from the Beattle Bar. Decent food in the restaurant...and Saturday night cookouts on the grill feature some great steak and seafood...along with live music. Ya aint gonna get that most places in Jaco.

No place is perfect for everybody of course...and sometimes personalities clash, sometimes they dont.

Thats my latest on this subject.

I've been trying to enlighten some of the hotels in Jaco. I'm going to try to get us one that will waive the chica fee. Anybody that charges $20 anytime of year, tell them to go f**k themselves! They're smoking crack. In Jaco, that is. I know that is the game in San Jose. I'll let you know when I reach an agreement with someone down here.

I'm not sure where you stayed, but there's no chica fee in Paradise and Copacabana.

Hey, I don't know for sure. I just know I've heard before on the board that sometimes you pay and sometimes you don't at Copacobana. I know who is running Paradiso now, but didn't know until last week, so haven't talked to him yet. Heard that place is pretty nice.

Have not stayed at Paradise, altho I met the owner in SJ a while back, nice guy, and walked by it a thousand times, I can not comment on the place. I had a couple of CR newbies check in at the Tangeri a couple of weeks ago, next to my unit, saying that they left the Paradise complaining it was the worst ever. However, as long as he honors his discount to the members of this board, and altho his hotel may be lower end with no ocean view, I have no problem.
Until the $$ runs out, I would rather stay in a hotel right on the ocean with a view, and my guess is that I will have to deal with the Paradise in the future, if I don't get a job
