I recently took a trip to San Jose, Costa Rica and had the wonderful pleasure of staying at the Hotel La Amistad. Prior to selecting this hotel, I considered several others and struggled with making a selection. However, based on the overwhelming positive reviews I saw, I decided to take a chance on Hotel La Amistad.

The accommodations were first class. The hotel is quite charming and well maintained with lots of natural wood, glass and metal accents. My particular room had a Jacuzzi, sauna and balcony with spectacular views of San Jose and the surrounding mountains. The hotel is located in a quiet, upscale neighborhood, but within walking distance of casinos, shopping, parks, action and entertainment. The weather was great during my stay and I went for daily walks and excursions feeling quite safe.

I maintain a fairly restrictive diet and usually encounter some difficulties when I travel. Although, the hotel rep assured me that their chef would be able to accommodate my needs, I had my doubts. My doubts were for naught! The chef, Jose, greatly exceeded my expectations and I enjoyed superb and delicious gourmet meals for the duration of my stay. Because this is a smaller, boutique property I received unexpected, but much appreciated, VIP treatment. All of the staff were very courteous, helpful, professional, and aimed to really please. One of the property’s co-owners, Don, personally pointed out the local attractions and provided me with a detailed history of the property and the local community.

My experience at Hotel La Amistad could not have been better. My goal was for rest, relation AND action -- in that order -- all of my expectations were met. Don't believe the hype about noisy trains -- that was not an issue. There is no other choice for me when I travel to Costa Rica! I can hardly wait for my next trip.

Glad to hear such a good review. I have extended my trip in March just so I could stay there.
