I'm arriving in San Jose on the 30th for four nights. I tried La Amistad and SL and both booked. I wanted to still stay in this neighborhood so I'm going with Hotel Vesuvio. I've read mixed reviews on this place. Can anyone chime in on this hotel?

Has anyone heard of any specials that La Amistad may be having for the super bowl? I prefer watching it there to SL.
Can't wait to get back.

Have you tried Castillo or Mona Lisa? Both walking distance and chica friendly. I might be watching it with you at LA.

Vesuvio is a bad choice on every level, I agree with the previous poster check with Mona Lisa 1st choice and Castillo 2nd choice.

I've never stayed at the Vesuvio, but why is it a bad choice? ML, the hotel is nice and the standard rooms are large for the price....highly recommended. Castillo never stay there, any new intel on the hotel.

cheers,
Attila

The Vesuvio is old and dated and worst of all they have paper thin walls. You hear every noise from both within the hotel and the street noise as well. The staff is not attentive at all. Beds are worn out and not at all comfortable.

Those staying at the Mona Lisa for Super Bowl are in for a nice surprise. I was there in December and noticed they had taken half of the restaurant and put in couches and easy chairs with a bunch of big flat screens. They already had a sports bar type of setting in the back of the casino so it should be a great place overall for sports viewing. Plus if it gets to crowded which I suspect it will you have the Dunn Inn across the street which is also set up great for games.

When did they do those renovations? I was just there in Aug?

Not really renovations, they took out about half the tables in the restaurant and put in the couches and chairs. There is still plenty of tables for eating though. In the casino back bar they also put in more TV's to make it more of a sports area. This was in December but I am not sure when they did it, just know that was what was there then.

On Ave. 9, next to The Castillo, is The Hemingway.

The Hemingway is not a great venue, but it may be good for somebody in a jam.
