Mates,

Im booked SJ Jan 29t to Feb 3. Im going with a couple of Drs who want to stay at the marriot in san jose. Ive called around to my usual spots but of course everything is booked. Anybody have experience with this hotel? The price is relatively expensive (starting 199/night) which they are picking the tab. My concerns are the following:

1. How is this hotel with amigas
2. Is it too far from the gulch
3. I can be the "sit around at the bar guy " have a couple of drinks drift the line set the bait and as soon as one comes boom, hooked and reel her in. Obviously Sportsmanlodge, or I can easily set the net and pull 5 to 10 amigas in one shot old HLH style, these are booked solid. Am I making a mistake staying at the marriot hotel?
4. I was thinking of dissing them and letting them stay at the marriot and Ill find a closer place to what Im looking for, of course they will not appreciate it but man do I need to party hard, its been a long F year. Any opinions and other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Make every moment count!

If your hosts do not like "sweets" like we do, and if you can get away from them, there is a good hot sheet hotel directly across Avenida 1 from the entrance of HDR.........

Hotel Queen, $11 for 2 hours. Pretty nice rooms with a shower in the room. Reception desk is upstairs on the second floor. Rooms are on the 3rd and 4th floors. 4th floor rooms are away from the street..therefore quieter.

Bro RAC's solution seems perfect for your situation but to answer your questions specifically:
1) Even if the Marriot was Chica-friendly or even accepting, don't play where you stay--it'll inevitably blow up on you.
2) Cabs are cheap so the ride is maybe time-expensive but cost-effective.
3) Assuming you and they came down to party a bit and socialize civilian style, no, the Marriott isn't a mistake--especially if it's "don't ask, don't tell" about your absences.
4) Staying somewhere else will cause more suspicion than the above suggestions and, hey, dissing someone paying the bills just isn't right (in my mind)...not when there's better ways to eat your cake and have it too.

Feel free to ignore all the above and find your own path...as you said, it's been a brutal year.
BTW, you obviously know these Doctors somewhat but they may surprise you--maybe let it out slowly and gently the opportunities that abound?

Which Marriott? If you're referring to the one in Belen - the Costa Rica Marriott, then yes, it is chica-friendly (no guest fee that I know of (*), and I've stayed there twice in the last couple of months).

However, you will have to register the chica at the front desk.

No action on premises that I've ever noticed.

It's faaar from the Gulch. Be prepared to pay 10k - 15k to AND from the HDR.

mh

(*) As always, double-check with the hotel ahead of time in case policies have changed.

Know several guys that come down with prepaid hotels from their job/business/company. They accept the free room as a 'sanctuary' and also get a room downtown on their own dime. Many times they will stay for 7-10 days and rent the extra room for 5-7 of those days. I see no reason to offend your friends when you can accept their generosity and do your own thing as well.

Good advice from MH on the Marriott but for sure, ask the hotel. It is a LONG way from the gulch and as MH said, it will cost you $20-$40 one way depending on traffic. Normal time will be about half an hour but during rush hour, that might extend to 1-2 hours. Rush hour is basically 5am-8am then 4pm-7pm.

Tell your uptight friends that you want to take Spanish lessons while you are here. That might cover your long absences from the hotel, and not really a lie, because you will definitely learn some Spanish phrases from your chica, like " Ay Papi, que rico!" :D

I had a condo in the area close to the Marriott and found an additional problem to the taxi cost and time to and from downtown. Many of the chicas do not want to go that far out unless you are paying them a premium ($100++) and paying their taxi ($25) back to San Jose. They also think you are a money bags guy if you are staying at the Marriott so their asking price goes up. Probably much easier to just go to one of the many massage parlors unles it's after 9:00 PM.

However, there may be a few possible alternatives. The first is the bar in the Marriott used to be a place in the mid afternoon where local classier chicas would hang out (for lunch with their girlfriends) so you may find a chica that way if you can speak some Spanish. Also, you can search the "Casual Encounters" link on the Costa Rica CraigsList. Some are shysters but some are real chicas who find online better than going downtown. A third is to PM me and I'll give you a tele for a chica (Speaks English) that lives in Heredia and comes downtown to work at SL during the day. She's not available at night.

For either of the last two you will want to make sure that you get a Kolbi cell SIM card in your phone when you land at the airport. $10 prepaid will do the trick if your cell phone is unlocked.

Thanks for all the responses. The only reason they are paying is so I can be a tour guide. Really tired of being a guide. Anybody know the name of the hotel across the street from El presidente

Conan,
This info is dated. I used to stay at the PRESIDENTE back when it was chica friendly. I was on the 6th floor in a room facing Ave Central. Looking out my window as the sun went down, you can see into the rooms at the Balmoral if the lights are on and blinds are open. So I watched some dude with 2 chicas in bed. Had a good laugh. But this was 6 years ago so I don't know if they are still chica friendly. I would recommend HOTEL MORAZON as a second hotel to take your chicas. Only a block away from HDR and no chica fee for 1 chica at a time. Sometimes the elevator breaks down and you have to take the stairs.

No - another really bad idea - not only do they have a guest fee ($25) its not a monger friendly place - tolerate if you pay our <fairly high> BS guest fee.

If you want to Phuck don't stay where you are thinking - period - too far out, some girls will not travel that far (yeah, perhaps for stupid reasons, but it is what it is), you have zero negociating power - if you lived here, you would likely develop a list of favorites, but for a short trip - fugetaboutit :P  :P - while I defer to my friend Miamiheller (who knows his stuff when it comes to Costa Rica, plus is completely fluent in Spanish  ), I think for the vast majority, staying outside the gulch, in 4 star hotels is just a bad idea.

(Unlike some of the drugstore cowboys on CRT :P :P   :P :P , I've been there and done that - for the first 5 years, the group I traveled with stayed in Escazu <worse, in San Antonio de Escazu, even farther away - while this was in the late '90's, and early 2000's, it was difficult to get girls to make the trip, and the traffic was much better back then, far fewer cars on the road vs today - it was a bout a 20/25 min trip to downtown; nor its 45 mins....or a lot longer  )

Look I "get it" about making the best out of a bad situation....I'm just saying to guys cash in your points some place else - and to other guys, forget these 4 and 5 star out of the way places unless you have the experience and the language skills of Miami Heller :) :) :)

Or, if you do stay out there, plan to use the Hotel Asia (a real shit hole, even since its been "redone") as a short term alternative -
Supposted to be a new place near the old Monkey Bar across from the bar entrance to The Delrey that has short term rooms. Or I suppose, use MP's.

Another new one, Queen Hotel, found by another CRT guy I forget so sorry i can't give credit, but decent reviews and prices for a quick dip, a block to Ave Central from the DR, get the interior rooms--not the Ave rooms.

It's between the Monkey bar and the hamburger joint at the southeast corner of ave.1 & calle 9. Directly across from the DR's ave.1 exit/entrance.

cheers,
Attila
