Disneyworld already exists - its called the "Zona Roja" in San Jose     :P

Seriously.....if Disney did come to Costa Rica, it would give new meaning to "Mr Toads Wild Ride"

Since it would not be located in/near San Jose, and there is very little to see there for the average person (I mean would you travel to see San Jose?) even if it did come it would likely have little impact on those tourists there for "other" persuits" - then again it might.

OTOH, I've seen far too many threads on CRT whip guys up into a frenzy over little to nothing - so until Cinderella's castle goes up (and boy, could I suggest an attraction located there that would really pack 'em in    ) or the official announcement from Disney - I'm not going to worry about it.***

Euro Disney changed little in France - Latin Disney - in Costa Rica - the more I think about it - could have numerous ramifications for us, not all positive - but as I say, lets not worry about what has not happened, and may well never happen. Based on PVT post, looks like this may well be the case

***I'm not even suggesting the laws regarding prostitution would be changed for the following reasons:

Much of the rest of the world has a more tolerant and enlightened view than the USA where our Puritan heritage continues to plague us regarding all things sexual

Prostitution in Costa Rica is tolerated for the local population - it was not instituted to give Costa Rica status as a sex tourist destination - the actual amount of sex tourists as well as the women who engage in the sex trade is small even versus the <small> population of Costa Rice.
Anyway, as the late great Irish Drifter posted, prostitution is not so much "legal" as it is not "illegal"

Anywhere there are men with money to spend there will be prostitution--even in the surrounding area of a Disney property.

Do not remember where I read it but somewhere it was stated that no country in the world spends more per capital on sex and sex related items (movies, books, toys, etc.) than the "puritan" (hypocritical) USA.
There is no law here (Costa Rica) making prostitution illegal nor is there a law making it legal. There are laws making the profiting from prostitution (pimping) illegal.

As for it being tolerated here, I would tend to think it is a little more than tolerated. Even eliminating the hand full of places whose primary business is catering to the sex tourist, there are still over 100 MPs with an average of 10 chicas per MP. There are over 150 bars with rooms and open to chicas "working" in the bars and renting the rooms. There are approximately 30 strip/night clubs with rooms for the chicas to use. Just in the greater San Jose area there are over 50 hotels where you can rent a room short time (by the hour). Almost every barrio has at least 1 or 2 or more chicas "freelancing" in the barrio (many are und***ge). There are several hundred chicas who work solely by appointment thru ads in the newspapers, the internet, and social media. The largest and most popular local web site among the Ticos is the adult section of the Foro de Costa Rica. The last figures I saw from the CR government estimated there were over 6000 women working in the profession at least part time. That is almost 1.5 % of the total population and over 5% of the females between the age of 18 and 40. Yes, the sex tourism is a small percentage, and really only tolerated by the officials. Most individuals here want sex tourism done away with. As for the sex industry among the Ticos, it is more something that exists without being talked about, and most wives seem to expect the men to partake. But it is more than "tolerated" it is big business here!!

Simply passing along what the late great Irish Drifter posted - while he could be wrong....he made a career out of knowing such things     :)

Disney made a huge mistake when they built Disneyland in CA--they didn't buy enough land to isolate themselves from the surrounding area. Result being countless tacky properties close by. Learning from their mistake, they essentially bought a whole county in Florida. If they do a thing in CR, and with essentially their own airport nearby, they'll do fine in an antiseptic, nothing-to-do-with-CR setting. Their standards are the same all over--can anyone tell us about Disney Chica-friendly properties?...so they'll go the extra mile to keep their property in Guanacaste publicly sin-free. Ho hum--wait, wait, that sounds smutty--what a snooze.

If this were to happen hopefully the government will at least get a free sewage treatment plant and improved roads in the area and not just from the Liberia airport or seaport to the property.

Once Danny and his boys on the north boarder get wind of this maybe they try to reclaim the land that was once theirs.

Apparently it's just a hoax

From 12/4 Tico Times:

By Wednesday afternoon, The Walt Disney Parks and Resorts press office had denied the claims. Sarah Domenech, public relations manager for Disney Destinations, told The Tico Times "the news is completely false."

Maybe but Disney is known for corporate feints--they used something like 250-300 different buying agents in Central Florida for DisneyWorld, so nobody would get a sniff. We'll see.

I took a class or a seminar at Disney in 72 and we were told that a group of 4 investors from all different parts of the USA posing as farmers for agricultural purposes looking to purchase land. They bought all the land except one parcel almost in the center that they bunkered around it and called it the bunker all you could see was an American Flag. Come on now if 200-250 people started looking at swamp land in central Florida all of sudden that would raise some ? since most of the land was owned by old families.

I may have overstated the number of agents but the overall truth is even more devious. Here's an excerpt from a serious book on Florida (I've bought and given away 5 copies of it):

There goes the neighborhood.

On one hand, I'm glad that this will provide jobs for the ticos, but hope it doesn't detrimentally affect our hobby here in San Jose. How long do you think it will it take for the monstrosity to be up and running?

Years, if at all, of course. It would be dramatic for the CR economy but for us I don't see negatives.

In another Post, I said our hobby usually works best in semi-secluded locations or colonies. Believe that Disney will do everything in their power to keep the clientele from spending anything directly into the CR fundstream (sweet seclusion). It will be a short-term big boon to constructioners, longer term to service providers (and hooray to all local provisioners) but I don't see it as impacting our hobby much. The more flagrant SJ providers may suffer crimpage ("tone it down a bit, willya?") but a lot of their audience isn't aware of our more stealthy, you're-a-fool-to-show-your-ass Bro-hood so...And besides, we pay better and provide much more excitement to the Chicas.
Concern is warranted but not fear.

Godd points in your discussion. Remember, this action is in Liberia. Liberia airport action, Guanacaste themes like eco, zip lines etc. Disney, IMHO, is probably interested in keeping the $ in CR and not repatriate it to USA. Most corps do this.
Overall, CR is now a family destination and that will not change. Nothing really new.

Sorry, I don't buy it. The infrastructure at this time cannot support it and I doubt the locals have the dinero to support it. If they ever did....they better bring in their own construction team i.e. contractors/ labor. If any one has dealt with CR trade contractors...you know what "on time and date" means to a tico.

Disney World was once over 30,000 acres but now is around 25,000.

If they ever did build a park, Bill at Sportsmans Lodge would be down there opening another lodge with a lot of Minnie's and Daisey's. NTM, if you think "cien" is expensive now....watch prices boom

Just my 2 cents worth.

OK...since we're all having a guess...Here's mine:
Disney seems to be getting into the "resort" market these days.
This area would probably develop more like the Aulani resort on Oahu, than like Orlando, Tokyo, Paris or Anaheim.
It's easy to look at the website for the Aulani, and imagine a similar style resort located on the beach in CR.
That's my guess.
