I understand there may not be too much to see in San Jose but do any of you know of any private one day tours of the city. Markets, museums, shopping etc. A way to get my bearings while still being safe, not walking alone.
Thanks

You could take one of the city tours. The tour desk at your hotel could arrange it for you or you could book it with one of the on-line travel sites. It would cost between $40-50 for a 4-5 hr day tour of the city.

If it's your first time to SJ, take a look at the google map before your trip. It will have the major attractions on it. Arrange your airport pick-up with one of the CRT sponsors...PVT, OLD. They will give you a mini-tour of the city when they transport you from the airport to your hotel. There's a few guys on this board that offer walking-tours. They might not take you to the museums, but they will take you to the places that really matters to the guys on this board...MPs, strip joints, etc. :D

Walking in SJ during the day is safe but beware of your surroundings. If you are staying in the Gulch, take a walk to Central Avenue. Start your walk from the Balmoral and walk west to the Central Market. It's a short 15 min walk and do the reverse to return to the Gulch. The National Museum, Gold Museum, and the National Theatre is in the vicinity.

There are a lot of things to see and do in SJ. You have to get out of the Gulch. I've done 8 trips to SJ in the last 18 months. I'm lucky I've met guys and chicas who've show me some of the sites of SJ. There are still a lot more for me to see.

cheers,
Attila
