The only way (time) a van or other means of transportation is worth it might be if you are only going to 3, maybe 4 specific, and spread out places. Getting around the streets of San Jose is way too difficult to say nothing of the parking problem. In many cases you would spend more time loading and unloading a group of guys than it would take to walk to the next place. Think about 8-10 guys (and some of us, old) getting in and out of a van 20-25 maybe 30 times in an afternoon!! Not a good idea, sorry!! Back when I was doing the walks regularly, We would hit as many as 35 MPs in about 5 hours and the only riding we did was from down town around the Mercado Central to Scotia Bank in Paseo Colon. And not too many complained about the walking nor the "perceived" danger!! Strange, out of the norm, different, often translates to "dangerous" with a lot of people!!!!

Hotel woes!
For some time I have been trying to schedule a trip to the Gulch during the first week of December, but I wasn't certain I would be able to get away so I didn't make a hotel reservation. I figured it was still green season, so things wouldn't be crowded. Boy was I wrong! One hotel was able to give me a couple of the days, but not the 5th or 6th. Another had a room on the 5th, but not the 6th. At this point I will probably wing it, and hope to find a room on the 6 & 7 when I am in town. Problem is, check in time will be during the MP walk, assuming I can find something. And I need a plece to store my suitcase in the meantime. Any advice?

Living here I obviously do not stay in hotels here, but I do believe most of the "Monger" hotels will be glad to hold/store your luggage till you get back to check in!!. If someone knows differently, please advise!!

Greybeard...........

Have you tried Hotel Castillo, halfway between SL and ScoreS/Zona 2.......or The Hemingway Inn next to Hotel Castillo.

IMHO, the Castillo is nicer than the Hemingway, but you're in a pinch, so you may LOVE the Hemingway.

If you're still stuck, send a PM to me for other ideas.

Think twenty circus clowns emerging from a VW bug, but drunk, too and some of them sporting Cialis hard-ons.

Try Dunn Inn, Mona Lisa, Hotel Morazan, or Hotel Del Rey. For that week in December, you should be able to find a spot.

IMHO, the hotels that Jawanker and Attila mention are the best and most popular with our brothers.......and for good reasons.

My suggestions of Castillo and Hemingway might work when the others are full because they are less popular. Another suggestion is The Freebird.

Thanks for the suggestions. My original intent was Scores, you can't beat that $30 rate! It was available the 2nd to the 4th, but not for the remainder of my planned stay. I was able to book the 5th at Amistad, but not the 6th. Sportsman's no, Zona II is over $100 withe the VIP discount. I was at the Morazon on a previous trip, I didn't find it as bad as some said, trouble was I found myself spending way too much time (and money!) across the street. Freebird is out because of no private bathroom in the cheaper rooms. I'll try Dunn and Castillo.

Try booking the Dunn Inn on Orbitz. Orbitz has a promo on hotels and the DI is on their list. You get 20% off when you use the promo code"cheers". Here's the link http://www.orbitz.com/ . It's a short walk from Scores if you are staying there from the 2nd to 4th and than switch to the DI for the remainder. The Mona Lisa has a special for $50 for standard. You must contact Guy directly to get the special. Here's his email guy.grand@yahoo.com.

cheers,
Attila

Any update on the walk? I assume it's a go. Looking forward to meeting up with wise gentlemen.

Still on go!!! Meeting at the Sportsmen's Lodge at 12 noon and go from there.

Please do not wear anything of real value--gold necklace, expensive watches etc.

Cameras: bring if you want but plan to keep it in you pocket or a bag when not using; not hanging out of your pocket or around your neck.

Dress comfortable, good shoes for walking, if you have one bring an umbrella just in case. We are at the end of the green season but it still can rain.

Plan to eat a late breakfast or an early lunch since we are leaving right at noon.

Zona II is holding a party at 2pm (Tico-time I am sure), so we'll terminate the walk there.

First round's on me!

and they work great if you should find yourselves outnumbered by trannies. if you don't have an umbrella breaking off a tree branch will send a strong message. good luck men.

There were about 15 pasty-legged gringos on the walk, Friday. We lost half of them by the time we made Paseo Colon. The bodies were never recovered.

We never got to the low-rent places on calle seis, but everyone seemed to enjoy the walk and have a great time. Many new chicas were discovered by the participants, and I am sure many sessions were had that may never have happened otherwise.

Good on all that attended, I enjoyed meeting each one of you, and I hope to hang out with you again soon in the gulch.
