Going back to CR after a long hiatus. What is the current price of taxi fare from SJO to the gulch? LA is offering pick up for $35 wondering if that's a good deal.

I usually take the bus for a little over a dollar then enjoy a nice walk or take a cab to the Hotel for $ 2.00 more. If I want to take a taxi I walk upstairs at the airport to the departure area and go inside and get colones from the bank. I then walk back outside and offer a red taxi 10,000 roughly $ 20.00 for a ride into town.

I like to take the bus, too, but upstairs at the airport, the red taxis will often take less than $20 to go to the gulch ...........to avoid a deadhead trip back into town.

Since neither of the first 2 posts actually answered the OP's question, I'll give it a shot. :P

The orange airport taxis are metered again I believe. They went from fixed to metered to fixed and back to metered. Depending on traffic, it will be no less than about $25, but could be as high as $45 with heavy traffic. I overheard a guy say he paid $45 into town in bumper to bumper rush hour traffic.

Go upstairs where taxi drop off passengers and offer 10K ($20). You probably won't get one to take you for cheaper unless he is going back anyway, they don't always return right back downtown.

Don't worry Herman.

Orange just needs to get back to SJ to get his dick taken care of. He'll do that soon.....then he'll be good again.

Please be patient with him.

He wasn't asking about the bus.

He was asking about taxis. And when people ask about airport taxis, I noticed, being here a little while, that they usually want to get out of the terminal, jump in a taxi as quickly as possible, and head into town. They are usually not interested in dragging their luggage upstairs, waiting for who knows how long, to save $10-15.

I find I pretty much agree with what you have posted over the years, but you are incorrect here.

Both Herman and Rac answered the OP's question - plus, how the heck are guys going to learn about other <great> options (like the bus, or the taxi's from town that you can sometimes get for $20 if you know where to look) if they are not mentioned?

While your supposition may be correct, this thread is a good example of what can happen when the board "works" :) :)

I just paid $25 with a red taxi with yellow triangle on the door (the only ones I ever take) at arrivals into SJ. I usually walk briskly past these guys thinking they are all hounds but $25 was fair for me.

Prior to this I had checked upstairs and there was no taxi's to be had at 9pm.

Thank you gentlemen for your responses and suggestions. Based on your replies, sounds like a legitimate taxi goes for around $20. I have no interest in taking a bus or walking all over the airport or walking several blocks downtown with my bags. Last trip I stayed at the SL and the cab driver had no clue as to where it was. I speak a little bit of Spanish and had I not it would have been a problem. Based on that, I find paying $15 dollars extra to have a driver waiting for you without any haggles soon as the doors pop open after customs a decent deal.
If you pay $100 for a chica, the 35 sounds good to me.
thanks and Later amigos!
26 days and counting!
