Know nothing, Know no one, speak no Spanish! Coming to Costa Rica because I dreaded spending 18 hours traveling to Europe for a 1 week trip.

That said I am open to suggestions

That's how I went in May... Just picked up and went.
I take it HLA is La Amistad, if so I really liked it there, just a block away from Sportsman's, you can get your feet wet there although it really doesn't pick up till the evening.
10 minutes walk to the Del Rey, downhill. You'll probably take a taxi back with you chica del dia.
I walked all around the downtown during the day, good exercise and interesting.
I met with some really great fellow travelers, lots of stories about life in general and women around the world.

Same here for Nov 20-25 staying at the Mona Lisa.That will be my 1st latin america trip,next will be medellin in Feb.Same situation as BT!!! both trips
