In San Jose sept 18 to 22. Any poker tourneys during that time? Del Rey poker room and Mona Lisa are just cash games only from what I'm reading on this site. Would appreciate any good info.

Not many nowadays. Barcelo may have one. Call the guys at the poker room in mona lisa. If anyone knows it would be them.

I was not able to find any tourney's, other than the CRT tourney which had a crappy turnout (15).

The Barcelo closed their poker room in July or August, and they had daily tourney's. Now it's pretty much cash games at Mona Lisa and Del Rey. I played at ML, crazy game. Big pots, pretty loose play, bordering on reckless. Get into some pots small just so they know you're not waiting for that big hand because then they will all just fold when you get in and you'll waste it. Play in many pots small, and be patient, you'll get a big hand eventually and go big on it.

Did the Sunday tournament not migrate over to the ML from the Horseshoe? Last time I was in town, Horseshoe had a Sunday tournament with time played as part of the buy in.

ML has a monthly tourney (on the 15th I think) freeroll for regular players. Pot is like $3000. You must get 50 hours in the previous month.

Yes the horseshoe group moved to Mona Lisa. Cash games every day starting at 2 pm until 5 am. The monthly freeroll is now $5,000 and is played on the Sunday closest to the 15th. 50 hours will get you a free seat to the tourney, however if you play at least 20 hours during the month you can buy your additional hours for $3 dollars per hour. Our last event we had a tourist play the 20 and then buy his hours and cashed $900 * they chopped the prize 6 ways with 2 tiers. Vegas Bob even cashed. We usually have 27 to 30 players per event and the tourney usually last about 3 hours. We also have a bad beat jackpot that is currently at $6,400, Jackpots for Royal and Straight Flush, and pay all quad twos thru sevens. And as usual we buy you 1 free meal while you are playing poker. It is a good group of guys, come enjoy some poker while you are recharging from your last session. You might win enough for a freebie...haha

Texas Dave

Hey Dave - who are you calling a tourist because I resemble that remark!? Any time I come down I will be playing at the ML. Hope to be back soon.

On a side note: When we got down to the final table of the tourney, 9 out of 10 people wanted to chop the pot. Everyone could have walked away with $500 except one guy didn't want to do it. Fair enough....I don't know if it was greed or arrogance thinking he could out play everyone else but when he got busted out, I just wondered if he was kicking himself for not chopping like everyone else wanted to do and leaving with nothing.

Don't know if that guy is on CRT or not but if you are and are reading this, thanks for keeping the table from chopping 10 ways. It worked out much better for me. :D

I probably could've won the whole thing but I had Vegas Bob on my left and didn't feel like taking any chances....that and "chop" is my favorite word to hear at the table.

I wouldn't have chopped either. Not because I think I'm better than everybody, but a 10 way chop is ridiculous. I don't even entertain the idea of chopping until we're down to at least 3-4 players, because at that point the difference in prize money goes up substantially.

Can someone tell me what limits are spread at the delrey or mona lisa? I'm assuming the only game spread is no limit holdem?

In August, I stayed in ML and there was always a game going. I went to DR a few times and it was always dead.

$1/$2 NL is always available. If there is enough interest (pretty much always at ML), there is a $2/$5NL game too.

The games are pretty loose, you can win a buttload quickly if you get some cards and play patiently. But be careful because there's plenty of fishermen who will chase cards to the river and if they catch may clean u out.
