Earlier this month, we were informed by CNFL (Costa Rican electric company) that the old side (the old Zona Blue) of our hotel had a faulty electric meter. We also were informed that this has been going on for quite awhile. While we do not know 100% which previous party was involved in this practice, we at HLH have decided to close that side of the operation immediately due to the increase of almost 6x in electric bill after CNFL changed the meter and also to avoid business inheriting a possible penalty from the past effective immediately.

This means that all of our suites and current short term rooms will be closed while we renovate the hotel to create new short term rooms with new beds. Our bar and rest of the hotel rooms will remain the same as before. We also will be reconfiguring our hotel to convert some of our first floor rooms to short term rental rooms in the near future. In a meanwhile, we will be using unrented hotel rooms as short term rooms. Our new entry will be only about 50ft up the hill.

For those of you who already have a reservation in our suites, we offer our sincere apologies, and will be contacting each of you to change your rooms and/or work with neighboring hotels to move your reservations.

On the positive note, now all of our hotel rooms have king size beds and some of the rooms will now include mini-fridge.

Pricing structure will be:
$69 - old Queen size rooms
$79 - old King size rooms
$99 - Junior suite

We will still honor all of our current promotions (30min special, $30 days of Christmas, early bird, cash is king, CRT no guest fee).

Also, we will continue to have our great business relationship with Wiseash and his cigar shop in the new side.

We at HLH are fully committed to make this transition as smoothly as possible, but please pardon our dust while we reconfigure our hotel. We expect the renovation to finish before Sept 1. Our bar will still be open during this renovation as well.

If you have any questions please email us at reservations@
hotellittlehavana.comor call us at (786) 467-0378 (US number), 2257-8624 (CR number), or stop by in person and ask for Jeff, our partner/GM. You can certainly PM me for any questions as well.

Again, we sincerely apologize for any inconveniences this may cause you, and hope to introduce you the new HLH very shortly.

As someone who has a few rental properties, your post caught my interest. I am unclear as to how renovating the interior will give you significant saving on your hydro bill?

OLD, thank you for your support. We will definitely keep in touch with you especially when we finish the construction.

Devo,
This decision is not to save money, but we do not want to be associated with such business practice. That is not how we operate. Just to make it clear, we have 2 separate buildings. The old Zona Blue side, and newer hotel and bar side, meaning that we get 2 separate bills for old and new. We are only closing the old side. Renovation of the new side comes from more of the necessity. We still like to offer short term rentals, need to have a new entrance, etc. since we ate planning to seal and completely separate the old and new.

Although we are planning to keep everyone updated with photos of renovation, if you want to know the detail, please PM me. There are things I feel should be communicated to the public and things that should be kept as private conversation. Thank you for your understanding.

Malepig,
Wi fi is not affected at all whatsoever. If anything, we might have more access point as we move the additional router from old side of the building to new side.

as much as I want to be supportive of the "improvements and changes" since the departure of Eddie....it just feels like the wheels keep falling off of this venture.

all the best though

PS, hire some pros...not mongers to run the place

After lot grueling hours o discussios and meetings, the current partnership is desolving. The hoel was sold to other investors, and Jeff will be the manger under different owners. For me personally, I will still go visit CR (matter fact, I will be there this Friday for about a week). Say hi if you know me and see me.

Hopefully the new ownership will bring the beer and shots prices back to normal levels and stop matching up to Del Rey ripoff prices.
I was there today. Paid $3.5 for imperial and heard shots were like $6 or $7. And there was no $5 short term room rental discount advertised here on CRT. I am just saying.

Dice thanks for the hospitality while I was there and I hope everything works out well for you. Jeff what can I say other than good luck and I hope that the ideas you were working on come to life. We have had some good conversations on running a business in Costa Rica and I have enjoyed your company. I am bummed that my suite is not going to make though, as I loved that balcony. There is just something about having a 2 person party up there with the trannies below. Anyway I wish both of you the best in your endevours

I love HLH as I did Zona Blue and always a good time there. Stayed at the hotel for a week Nov 2011 and Valleyranch is right, steep prices from the bar. Just have a few questions.
1. Did the restaurant ever get going and is it still in operation.
2. Did you lose many ladies because of the interruption

See you Tuesday, it will be interesting to see the changes in person.
