No Limit Texas Hold'em, the most popular card game in the world.

In case anybody is not familiar with tournaments, here's how it works:

The buy-in is $55 per player. For that buy-in, each player gets some pre-determined amount of poker chips (everybody starts with the same amount---maybe 3,000, depends on the rules).

Each player can bet, call, or raise any amount (no limit) on every hand. You can get busted out on one hand if you go "all-in" and lose the hand to a player who has equal or more chips than you.

You play until you lose all your chips. At that point, you can either exit the tournament and look for a chica to heal your wounds :P or you can rebuy (there is a one-time rebuy option). For $50, you get rebuy and get another 3,000 (or whatever it will be) in chips.

You keep playing until there is one player with all the chips.

Of each person's $55 buy-in, $50 goes into the prize pool and $5 goes to the casino (to pay for using their equipment, dealers, drinks, etc). The $50 rebuy goes all in the prize pool. So with 50 players (incl rebuys), the prize pool is $2500. Winner will usually get 40-50% of that. Not bad for a couple hours of fun.

The payout structure will usually pay top 3 places, sometimes more, depending on how many entries there are. The rule of thumb is pay 1 place for every 10 entries. So with 39 or less people, top 3 are paid. With 40-49 players, top 4 are paid, and so on. Each place get's a percentage of the total prize pool. (ex. 1st-50%, 2nd-30%, 3rd-20%)

If anybody has any questions about this, post them or PM me.

Thanks Orange, Good explanation. I've never played the game, but it's time I tried. I'll see if I can find an online practice site. I'll try to have a chica standing by to heal the wounds.

Gentlemen,

Regarding the CRT Poker tournament @ The Mona Lisa.

I am in. The Mona Lisa Hotel Casino guys would like Orange or someone to start a roll call to see how many will participate so to know how many dealers and tables will be necessary for this tournament. We have just 16 days to go from now.

Is this party shaping up to attract some folks or will it be a dud? Trying to decide whether to show or not?

And the poker tournament? How long would that typically last? And will there be any women around for that?

Ciao

David

Oh, P.S., did that Bikini Contest thing attract any beauties?

A tourney typically takes 2-3 hours.

In the seven years I have known Bill he has always been mysterious about the exact agenda about the spontaneous fun that tends to happen at the Sportsmens. I suspect it's part planned and part improvised, and if he told us too much in advance it might spoil the fun. However, I am confident that on Monday the reports will end along the lines, "and a good time was had by all".

Mysterious happenings at the SL are usually good. The surprises are never bad, in my experience. Except the surprise? hangover in the morning :)

Was there ever a roll call made or is the card game off?

idk about the poker tourney but i'm doing my best to recharge by dead battery after a red eye in a delta sardine can. didn't help that i had a fidgety nervous elderly persian woman freaking out all night either.
the significant loss of leche since landing is probably my fault.
see you guys around 6 at the front of the bar closet to the door :!:

Poker Dave @ The Mona Lisa Hotel Casino says today the Poker Tourney is not only on but advance chatter is looking towards a very good turnout! 12:30 pm tomorrow for $55 buy-in and signups. One re-buy at $50. Orange explained the rules & payouts quite well in this thread.
