Esteemed CRT brothers,

Steve and Sid both provide good service and advice, too.

The bus is about $7 each way, and leaves from the Coca Cola Terminal several times each morning. It takes 20-30 minutes more than a private car.

IB is $37 ($35.15 if you book through Shuttlebus) each way, or $74 RT ($70).

The OP must be looking at Interbus private transport (instead of shuttle service) or he is counting for 3 people (74x3=$222).

With more than 2 people, a taxi is the cheaper way to go. Contact "Puravidatransport" on this site.

Do not be afraid to take the bus, its quick, easy, and very safe. They leave various times throughout the day. The seats are comfortable and a great view out the window. Private transportation is very expensive in Costa Rica. If you want to save some money, this is a no brainer. I love using the buses in Costa Rica.

The best way to go if you are on a budget and not worried about time is to take the Jaco bus at Coca Cola terminal. I think it's about $7 and the 1st one leave at 5 am. It does go the long way (Atenas route), so it going to take you about 2:15 minutes. Also, keep in mind, if you are easy to get car sick, think route will more than likely turn your face a different color. The last bus from Jaco back to S.J. leaves at 7 pm and does a reverse route.

Talked to a local taxi driver and he said there are two bus routes to Jaco. One on the new highway and its as quick as he can take, sometimes even quicker. And the other route which is about 30 minutes more. Check out the schedules in the station for what you want and the times available. I have a friend who owns property in Jaco and he is on the bus almost every week between San Jose and Jaco and enjoys the ride.

And yes, there is a directo, though it only runs a few times a day. Travel time is given as 2:15 as compared to 2:30 for the normal bus; actual results may vary. :D
