I flew Taca on my last trip & didn't see any male flight attendants.

One of the female flight attendants was totally hot, though. The rest were above average as well.

I flew Delta on my first trip, I find Taca to be comparable in just about every way. Flying Delta again in January simply because their fares were a little better.

Effective mid-May, Taca re-organized its schedules and dropped a lot of flights.

They dropped the non-stop from JFK due to "lack of interest". Maybe if you didn't charge $780, there would be more interest. Their main draw was that the majority of their passengers were Latinos. I think Latinos "trusted" them more than the US carriers. And also Taca was usually one of the cheapest. I guess maybe they figured the Latinos would stay loyal, even with the ridiculous fares. I guess they thought wrong.

I just priced NY to SJO for August (middle of off-season)... $718. JetBlue for $428.

Beginning of the end for Taca?

JetBlue's bargain basement fares are mighty tempting, but I hate going through Fort Lauderdale. I'm pricing MDE to NYC fares. While everyone is $700 or $800, JetBlue is low-balling it with $552.

I've never flown with them... how are they anyway? I'm kind of partial to the Latin American legacy carries like Avianca, COPA and TACA.

Flew them a couple of times domestically a few years ago. Unless things have changed, economy is very comfortable. Each seat has 35 channels of Direct TV (however I believe it only works within US airspace. Do they have on-demand movies when flying internationally?)

And you get 1 suitcase (up 50 lbs) free and no carry-on fees. FU Spirit!

I like JetBlue. Seats are comfortable, price is right, free bag(s) for international flights, and free tv/movies. Their Direct TV will not work once you're out of U.S. Airspace, but they usually have 3 or 4 free on-demand movies to choose from, to make the flight go by quicker. I've flown them from Orlando to SJO (direct) a couple times this year, and flights were either on time or early. I'm flying them again next week to SJO, and hoping for a similar experience as my other flights with them.

In believe it is/was Sansa...and I think it is part of Taca/Lacsa...

In any case I find Taca to be much much better than any of the American or Canadian airlines...everything is included...meals, a free drink or drinks, no extra luggage charges, etc. Better service overall. And at a decent price mostly.

I joined lifemiles.com, which is the combined frequent flier program from Taca, Avianca and other Latin American airlines. You can use the miles on Copa (Panama) and United (US).

They normally charge $30 to buy 1,000 miles, but in my experience will make two offers during the year to do so at half price. Here is how it breaks down for one-way tickets based on the $15 per 1,000 mile rate.

San Jose and Medellin: 9,500 miles ($142) Taca or Avianca
Medellin and Cartagena: 3,5000 miles ($52) Avianca
San Jose and Baltimore: 15,000 miles ($225) United

Sometimes more miles are required, but I have been flexible so far and able to get the cheap rates. I like one-way tickets because it allows me to be mobile. If you try to buy one-way tickets or anything directly between Latin American countries without a return to the U.S. the prices are always very high.

Lifemiles is awesome.. I have gotten flights from NY for about 10,000 miles. BTW, you can pay 40% in miles and pay the rest in cash.. It averages out to $12-15 per $1000. That's why I never even take their double mile offers.
