Brother Orange--a cogent on-point question. Were I a 1st-timer at the Castillo or any hotel anywhere, I'd sign a blank paper to be put with my room key with instructions to have anyone asking for the key to sign a blank piece of paper--even if a bad guy knew my name and room number, the signature is unlikely to match.

I love the Castillo, and invariably end up staying there at least one night per trip, but man oh man could they use some new mattresses. They've been pounded down over the years to where they're the consistency of pizza dough! :D

Thinking about a trip to SJ the middle of june. Need to do it on the cheap. Never stayed at the Castillo but heard good things about the place. The courtyard looks really nice. Could anyone tell me the crt discount for a week stay, are the standards in the courtyard or mansion. Thanks for the reply.

cheers,
Attila

Courtyard and Mansion are the Sportsmens Lodge Wings.

The Castillo is nice if you are going and trying to save money. HLH is also cheap with their special. Amistand is also fairly cheap but I have never stayed there so can't comment on their rooms.

I will be at Castillo mid June. I personally really like it even though it is not for everyone. Unless pricing changed a standard room with 7 day, cash, CRT, and green season discounts applied it drops rates to 34-36 a night.

Thanks Seawub, I'm planning a trip for mid june. Have stayed at DI, ML, and HLH in the last 6 months. Need to do this trip on the cheap.

cheers,
Attila

It's ok if you want cheap. Get the new wing though, otherwise you're going for really old and cheap. The old wing is pretty nasty and has a funky smell.
