I have been to samara 10 times or so over the years. It is my favorite beach area by far in CR. First of all the road is paved the whole way, maybe there are some potholes but it should not be too bad.

The beach is a cresent about 5 km long, protected by an island and an off shore reef. Great for swimming, the water and beach are clean also. There is some beginner surfing at high tide near town.

More canadians and europeans than americans. The town , which is pretty small has everything you need. You can walk everywhere also. There is a great restaurant on the beach north of town, you can walk to it, which has great grilled meats. I had one of the best steaks of my life there and yes it was costa rican beef from monte verde.

There are lots of tourist women looking for a good time. I hooked up on some trips with german and canadian women. There is a place that has women. It is called mangos I think or something close to it. It is just off the beach about 600 meters south of town.

You can stay in town, there are some nice places there or south of town on the beach. I have stayed at the brisas del pacifico that has a bar restaurant pool right on the beach and at the fenix a little further down the beach. The place with the women is between these two places. There is an old matapalo tree that is falling apart take the little dirt road beside it and the bar is 70 meters on the right. A matapalo tree is a big hardwood tree taken over by the strangler vines which kills the tree over time hence the name matapalo tree killer.

Another advantage of samara is that it is close to playa carillo. A gorgeous cresent beach 3km long which is fairly pristine. No developement at all along the beach.. I used to walk to this beach from samara. On a hill overlooking the beach is the village. Small quiet lots of italians, Good for a day trip.

Over all better to bring your own woman but there are possibilities.
