I admit I screwed up by not talking to the guy before we started, but since I didn't have anything smaller than 2,000, I was not in a position to haggle. I walk all around the area, but I didn't expect the chica to walk up the hill in high heels. Plus, it was a little chilly for her.
i thought about this post the day i left.
took the SL taxi route as its a $25 rate i can deal with and easy since Ingrid can work before my late flight.
the front desk said no problem and i went about last minute goodbyes etc.
around 4 i went out front and there was a van but not one of the vans i recognized as SL regulars. he said 4 for the airport? and i said thats me, so i went back for my luggage and he was very gracious loading my stuff, smiling, and off we went.
we start to talk and get around about five minutes from SL and he tells us it will be 40 for the ride. so i calmly tell him its 25 for an airport run from SL. he says that because i have two passengers beside myself it is 40. ok np i'll pay the 40 but i'm also getting on the phone at the same time and calling the SL desk to make sure this guy never gets another call for pick up.
explain whats up and the front desk apologizes. its cool because I SHOULD HAVE ASKED HOW MUCH
so the guy is on his phone talking to someone and by the time he drops me off its 30 and apologies everywhere. i tell him i would have tipped him that extra 5 anyway so he beat himself out of the tip. not only that but the girls had a different taxi drop them off back at our apartment.
so following my own and others advice, if there isn't a meter ask how much even if its a taxi called by the front desk of your favorite hotel. you never know.
