Gentlemen:

Has anyone dined at the restaurants of these two establishments lately? If so, I would appreciate a critique of the food, cleanliness and the service along with prices.

Also, I heard that the President still had a breakfast even after the News Cafe closed. Is that correct?

I've had a couple of meals at the Mona Lisa. I've found in both cases that the meals were ok, but nothing special. I had chicken and the seafood soup. The prices were a bit high for waht you were getting, but perhaps around or a bit less than Sportsmens prices. I wouldn't make a special trip to go there and eat, but if you're already there then there's nothing wrong wth the food.

I've eaten at the Dunn Inn several times, always pleased, I found it excellent, had breakfast, lunch and dinner. The last time I ate there I ordered the chef's specialty for that day, the chef came out to check on me to make sure I liked it !

Hot waitress with glasses and massive breasteses very sweet... next time I eat there if she's there I'm going to get up the nerve and ask her if she'd be interested in earning a cien tip and visit with me... prices a little high for Costa Rica but reasonable as far as Hotel and tourist trap restaurants go, I always make sure I eat there at least once when I come down...

Best time to eat at Dunn Inn is when they have the lunch specials for the locals.

Thanks for your reports.

It never ceases to amaze me how SJ food has gotten so expensive in the last several years. I can eat for half the price in the U.S. and get more to boot. Certainly not in SJ but I can eat here at a buffet for $7.85 with an assortment of many veggies, fruits and meats/ fish. One of the reasons that I care less to visit CR.

And, as I have stated many times....there is no good steak in CR.

This is one of the reasons that I miss the Presidente. I dined there lot and was close to other restaurants if I wanted something different. I may have to re-think my reservation.

Anyone have a photo of the one in glasses? She sounds like a girl I met at the Del Rey & I've also seen her around SL.

I doubt she moonlights as a stroll around the Rey or sit around the Sportsman's puta, she's too out in the open as far as her job goes, but who knows how she may respond with a quiet private generous offer. She's big and beautiful with massive plump n natural bouncy shaky melons that will alter your universe forever, given the chance.

In addition, she's got a friendly laughing joking jovial teasing fun flirting personality.

I'm still kicking myself for not asking her on my last visit, she remembered me and we had a great conversation, if she's around when I return end of July, I'll make my move. The beauty of Costa Rica is if she rejects me, instead of moping around and feeling dejected, I'll pick one that looks similar and imagine it's her...

I agree, and the places that cater to Gringos are getting ludicrous, my favorite breakfast, served by the Del Rey restaurant is an all you can eat deal, but it's still an absurd $16 or so.

I still walk the nooks and crannies of the shopping district below Del Rey on and off the main drag as well as other places all over town and Paseo Colon and Sabana. I keep finding great little hidden away off the proverbial beaten path Tico sodas as well as Mexican, Colombian, etc., etc. Some are even in semi-residential neighborhoods. They are either real cheap (maybe around $4 or $5 for a lunch) or if the cost is around $6 or $7, you get a massive amount of food.

If you want good steak, I heard the Argentinean places are great but pricey, one's in Escazu and another is downtown. The White House in Escazu Hills has good steak and I believe it can be had for lunch as well, I keep getting their giant cheeseburger when I go, they are pricey but not as much as they look, worth it once in the daytime for the view alone...

I guess you are spot on. They don't have "early bird" specials in SJO :P
