Holas,

Has anyone stayed at the Apartamentos Sudamer on the corner of Calle 7 and Avenida 14 ?

Would be very interested in hearing of anyone's experiences.

Ye Old Man

At night time this is not a great part of town, i have stayed a few times and have seen some problems all have been at night. In the evening at about 10:00 on you will see TV all over the place, it,s look like the Morzon Park.
One time a guest was robbed at knive point when he was trying to get a cab and that was about 40' from the lock gate.

One evening i was returing to the apartment and i was not thinking to ask the taxi driver to wait till i get in the lock gate. I was trying to get my keys out and had a pock full coins, during this time i had a CD case with about 12 cd in them under my arm. As i put the key in the lock i could fell my CD case being pull backward from my arm. I turn to see a 6' about 180lbs TV holding my CD case. I went thur the gate and lock it as i turn to look at him he is tell me in Spanish that he want 5,000 colones and i can have my CD case back. I said to my self f*ck it and took it as a lesson learn in life.

I stayed at Sudamer and had a great time. It is a fine apartment complex with real good rates. Carlos is an excellent host.
JUST BE CAREFUL AT NIGHT.

Hi

I will be going to SJ on May 18-May25 for my first time in Costa Rica and I was interested in staying here. I was wondering if anyone has any advice about staying here? Is it a good idea for me, being this is my first time, what from I have read I will be taking taxis vereywhere I go at night.

Thank you for your input and help

Ate you guys joking or is this a place that I should truly avoid? I've read other posts that state that Sudamer is safe and you just need to watch your surroundings., please let me know

I stayed there for about 6 months and never had any security problems. It is 7 blocks south of the Presidente. The people staying their are nice. Don't give the owner any security deposit as it was a hassle getting it back.

1. It's your first time
2. You are only going a week.

It's not recommended you stay anywhere like this until you get your foot on the ground and have a look around for yourself.

I've stayed at Sudamer my past 7+ trips, including a 3 month stay in 2010. Carlos is a great host, and for the price, you really can't beat it.
Walking distance to Avenida Central and the DR, and a grocery store around the corner. Next to the grocery store is a tiny soda with a red and white awning. I got breakfast there every morning. For like 3 bucks you couldn't beat the rice, fried eggs, plantains, and toast.

But back to the apartment..fully furnished with very good wifi, Tv (mostly spanish stations so it stayed off) and a landline phone. Only drawback was no a/c. But it never got too hot, and if it did I just asked Carlos for a fan, and problem solved.
The maid does your laundry for 2k colones and has it folded for you within a few hours. Also a full size kitchen and fridge.

The chicas know the place and some might not go since there is no "security", ie a person working the front desk who can save them in case anything goes wrong. But out of 20 girls I asked to go there, only 4 said no. Also, be discreet.

The area can be rough at night. There are a few karaoke bars around the corner, and always a few hookers working the corner. I personally however, have never had any issues here at night, and I've walked home from the DR past midnight a few times.

Overall, would recommend, but like another person mentioned, don't stay here until you get the lay of the land a little bit.
