This was my first trip to SJ and through reading this board I decided to give the 'new place' a chance.

I can't say enough good things about Guy and his staff. From the ease of booking via email to checkout it was seamless. Each member of the staff made me always feel right at home.

The ladies at the front desk were helpful to a fault, from helping me find me a tailor to getting my postcards dropped off at the post office the day I was leaving. The cleaning staff were pleasant and did a bang up job, even folding my pj's in the morning!!! The doormen seemed to know where everything in town was that I was looking for and always got me a taxi fast if none were outside waiting.

There was always a good selction of ladies in the afternoon/evening, even had a sweet duo offer their charms at prices that rivelled the DR, now that was convenient!!!

Had most of my meals there and was never disappointed, from eggs to filet mignon. The service was as good as the food and the waiters were gracious enough to tolerate my daily distruction of their language.

Though the bar and casino was hopping most nights, my room on the 3rd floor was quiet.

I didn't have internet in the room but the signal in the restaurant was quick and reliable with both laptop and ipad.

I plan to return to SJ before very long and without a doubt Guy & the Mona Lisa will get my business.

Can someone give me an idea of Mona Lisa's location in reference to HDR? Can one easily walk to HDR and KL? If not is it a long cab ride? Thanks for any info...

Easy 5-6 block walk in the day. After dusk take a $2 cab ride. Up the hill, angle left, skirt the park, look up and you'll see the famous big pink palace. Ask directions from anyone if you get lost. Then, hang on to your hat, you are in for a ride!

I have a little fan I take with me and plug in at various places I go. Especially near the beach.

Rummy is only bad if you sit down to play and think your playing bj, trust me most gringos dont know they are playing until they get a black jack and dont get paid.

Once you understand the game ( rummy) its not that bad think of spanish 21 that is played in most us casinos, but a little different, you can make a run just like bj but know and understand the game before you play it or say it sucks.

As for me,yes I play it, most I will play is 25,000c but mostly 10,000c, many girls playing, fun to see a girl pull out a $100 bill, they always give me the look when I see them pull out us cash.

For me the game is tute, if your gambling more than $ 25 /50 a hand the last place to be at is a hooker casino, playing tute you can for about $6 a hand $2 a hand if you fold, you can drink for free and puts you in a good spot to only talk to the girls you want to talk to, for the bonus bet of $ 2 you can win $600 us, I have hit that bet 11 times over my 7 years of playing so it does happen.
