Good post. I think there are a few reasons why the board has changed. And as we all know, change is inevitable. However, one hopes that the change is for the better usually. LOL

Anyway, as for why things have changed, here are my thoughts:

I think the number one reason things have changed is that a number of experienced, contributing vets have moved on to other destinations, whether it be Colombia or Thailand/Phils and don't post anymore; or post very seldom. These guys used to travel to CR on a regular basis and would update the board on what was happening. Most have not been to CR and probably don't plan to ever go back since they found better places for them. Some example: Mucho Gusto, El Silencioso, CiaoCiao, Scubabum, Big Daddy, even Spanky ( ). And those are the guys I personally know, there are others who I can't think of right now.

Another reason is that some guys have gone underground. They still come to CR, but they don't post their dates or trip details. The reason is that their posts were once shown to the girls or whomever and they had drama as a result of it, so they prefer to just come and enjoy and not make it known publicly. The little bitches who run to the girls to show them as soon as they see their names posted are just scumbags, nothing more needs to be said about them. They usually also share their logins with the girls so those that read English know exactly what's written about them.

Also, I assume some guys have stopped coming or are coming less often due to the economy. With the rise in ticket prices and the loss of jobs, I'm sure some just aren't able to go.

And I agree that in the past, when a newbie came on board, he'd have questions and they would be answered. Now, he gets his head chewed off for not knowing everything as of his 1st post. I don't want to make this post about me, and I'm not fishing for any compliments, but I'll say this. I used to post a lot. I would usually answer all those newbie posts, either by giving a direct answer or by directing them to my newbie info post, or both. But then I heard through the grapevine and even directly that I'm a post whore and a know-it-all. The truth is that the only thing I know about mongering is from experience and from seeing what I saw in about 60 trip to CR and other locations. I never claimed to know everything. I have been told that some board members would actually sit in SL and talk about me (and others) behind our backs. WTF? Get a life, go Phuck somebody. I'm usually thick-skinned but that kind of took me by surprise since most of my posts were to answer questions, make suggestions, or give info. So I stopped posting for a while. Then I started posting again but not as much, and now I just don't have as much time. I've been traveling a lot lately. I have spent 3 out of the last 5 months in Indo-Asia for work. So another reason may be that people's priorities/lives have changed and they have moved on or are less involved. And this opened the door more some douche bags to come in and start fights and rile things up.

Another thing you mentioned is sharing of info about the various places, especially those outside of the 5 or 6 places that are always discussed. First, I think there is only so much you can say about a place. Over the years, things don't change that much, other than the girls; unless you are HLH. And it's a fact that most guys that come to CR to monger don't go to Calle 6 or Paseo Colon, they stick to the usual spots. Those places are pretty nasty for the most part, as far as personal hygiene goes. (I won't take my usual shot at Relax and their dirty sheets- oh well, I guess I just did ). So there's nothing they can offer about those out of the way places because they have no interest in ever going there. There are many guys (probably not on this board) that don't even leave the HDR at all. They eat, sleep, drink, and Phuck only on site. To each his own.

I still enjoy reading the posts, especially since I know MANY of the members personally. I still travel to CR, usually annually now, and making it to the occasional Superbowl weekend too. It's nice to have a wife who understands (doesn't like it but approves) of my extracurricular activities. I will be back in late August, so whoever wants to sit down and have a beer, and talk about how much of a know-it-all some people are, look me up.

After witnessing some of the comments by others since I joined this forum a year ago, I decided not to post about my first and subsequent trips. I'm sure I'm not this first to make this choice.

It appears the site may change in a better direction but some of the past contributors may not post as much leaving a void of knowledge.

I remeber the old school CRT Anniversary parties...it was always a great time hosted by Bill and the lodge. To the original point, a lot of camaraderie has fallen off due to the small things like this no longer around.

Regardless of schedules, most original CRT members would always find a way to show up to that to smoke and joke..

Now it's about going over bit by bit what is better here or there or why prices have gone up because a guy paid cien in 1986 or sum shit...

Couple that with the general decline in the scene in SJ, and here we are..

Orange, I'm going to disagree with you in a couple of respects, although a lot of what you said is true. You say that places don't change much, but I don't think that's true. Even if the MP itself doesn't change the people change on an almost daily basis. The people, especially the girls, make the place. People should know what's happening currently. Cultural changes like upselling wax and wane too, as do the going rates. In addition, while you say the older, experienced gents have moved on (and that's true) with good information and with ongoing experience the Old should be replaced by the New. In other words, there should always be a group of "experienced" gents floating around, who can share what's happening on the ground at any time. This is true of all places, and is the value of boards like this. three year old info has little value, as you well know. There's no benefit to anyone in keeping the emerging set of eyes in the dark. The sharing of information helps us all, and keeps the spirit of sharing, and of experimentation in all places, not just the most gringo of places that are discussed now.

i just think the days of sharing information on girls is gone. there is nothing to gain from giving specific information on them since some slapdick trying to make points with her is going to run top speed to her and out you. i've seen it happen a lot and its always uncomfortable for the guy. the girl will make sure of that.
i remember when i first joined crt guys would talk in specifics of what was provided, details, etc.
there are a few guys who still do but most don't use names. wise choice. i'm sure most of the good info goes on in pm's and i know a good number of guys who don't trust those as well.
so while in theory it sounds great, the ugly truth is anything you say can and will be used against you eventually.

Could not agree more with these two long standing CRT members. Great synopsis' guys.

I was one who in the past posted in great detail about my experiences first in Costa Rica, then in Medellin. Until I heard through the grapevine from some random chica exactly what had been said about her on here and the discovery of many ticas having their own accounts.

I use CRT now mostly for the camaraderie of the guys in the chat room and pop in and make a few comments on threads here and there, but frankly, my days of posting relevant information on girls is over !!!

After being a member to CRT for going on 9 years I have an obvious observation to many. Guys who give out this site info, login info and passwords`s to wife`s, girlfriends and female friends to just announce a photo or comment that has been posted are not thinking of all the consequences in doing so. I know I am probably being naive to think some of the girls could not figure how to create a non-member account on her own, however......

Pm`s to The Admin can help clear up issues or disputes without giving the CRT login info out. We can address these things without being a hero in our girls minds and or our own mind`s IMHO.

Sorry guys, and maybe it's my naive optimism speaking, but I think you're wrong, in philosophy and in approach. You may be hiding information fom a few dickheads, but I like to think that there's more good guys than bad ones here, and the inncent get punished with the guilty. Besides, who said information on specific girls was the only or even the most important part of the process? Knowing about what's happening in MPs, in hotels, restaurants, off-hobby activities, and everything else, is the type of general information that can't hurt anybody, and which used to be frequently shared here. If I wanted to go on a 4x4 tour I used to be able to get that info here. Good places to eat, the MPs with the best current selection, etc etc. How could this information hurt anyone, even in the hands of an asshole?

We talk about the old-timers, and I've been around long enough to consider myself one, but we are the most guilty of all in this. We have the knowledge and the experience to make this board better for everyone, and to provide the content that would be useful to anyone. Everyone hides it now like it's gold, or are too apathetic to contribute. It's not. We blame the loudmouths for making this place inhospitable, and that's true, but we have only ourselves to blame for making it less relevant. The "facts" as it stands today are such because we've made it that way. No excuses. As long as we keep thinking with an "us and them" mentality then that's all this place is ever going to be, and if that's it then why would we bother at all?

Part of this also falls on moderation. I've been on some forums where the inmates run the asylum. Other sites are tightly moderated and one step out of line regardless of the length of membership and a person is banned. There have been threads that remained opened far too long despite remarks from the admin asking members to refrain from further comments. This adds to defining the culture of the site. New members and lurkers identify the hostility even among veterans and defer from contributing resulting in the lack of new members replacing the knowledge void left by veterans. If you want to change the culture of any site and regain the free flow of information, it begins with the moderation. Hopefully the addition of a new administrator will help.

I used to write trip reports. They're still out there, in the VIP Trip Reports forum.

I stopped for two reasons - one is the same reason ElS and LAD alluded to. The other will remain private.

The most recent example of reason #1? The last time I encountered Sandra, the CRT unicorn, she casually quoted to me verbatim something I wrote about her here on CRT. As she was saying it I realized she had no idea I was the one who wrote it. It was still jarring to hear from her lips almost the exact words I had written about her.

So don't be too quick to judge posters who don't contribute much anymore. They have their reasons.
