Gotta agree with Ye Ha. Like a sore pecker, he's hard to beat. The reliability and service of Sid with One Lucky Dogg is outstanding. Makes you feel like a V.I.P. He confirms and tracks my flight. Always there on time and has cold beer waiting for me. In the past he's made a stop by Walmart so I could get restocked and really knows his way around town. Best thing is, his shuttles are for tips only. I think he is listed in the classified ad section here.

I usually tip a taxi from airport $0-3. I would not be comfortable giving him $3. This whole business model is very confusing.

And never forget it was and is a business model......that crap he originally posted about needing to get out of the house/not a business is just that, crap....it was a business model all the time with the goal or running PVT off and taking over the CRT market. Any one whos says anything else is selling something.

BP- I don't think think that is Sid's goal. There is plenty of business for 2 or more drivers. Just sayin'

BP I have read your comments and respect your opinion but this time you are way off bounds. Have you ever met Sid? First and foremost he is a stand up guy. sure he has a different business model and there is nothing wrong with that. He business model is providing great service and ensuring anything you need s taken care of. If you would talk to him then you would know he is not trying to run anyone out of business. I will admit about the tips only deal had me a little confused as well. However once I met with him I understood that he is a great guy and can even say after meeting with him he is a friend as well. There are plenty of business for PVT, Sid, and the bus. But to call him out like that is what crap really is.

I do not know what his business model, intentions, ulterior motives, or any other terminology you want to use were or are. The one constant in any business is that there always is someone who wants to offer a better or cheaper or sexier or whatever to capture part or all of your business. That is capitalism 101.

The challenge for any business is to examine what the competition is offering and see if you can stay the same or if you have to make some changes to survive and flourish.

Yep, capitalism 101 always did have an element of bullshit in it.

His early repeated post of I'll do it "just tips for my CRT brother's because I need to get out of the house" was bullshit as evidenced by his later and current advertising that he has at least 3 vehicles and 24 hour service, and offers all kind of other travel options.

So I guess he needed to get out of the house bad, alot. Many of us can identify with that, straight up.

Straight up is always better then when you use the phrase "no fare for my CRT brother's" as your hook.

But, ID is right, it's capitalism 101 and maybe PVT was overpriced. I know my friend Earl Montoya was and I told him many times. Why not just advertise a lower price as opposed to making your "brothers" feel "uncomfortable" as to how much to "tip". Every guy expects to pay nor wants something for nothing.

Me, I take the pirates if I'm headed into SJ, $15 total, there's always one around, and I don't feel rushed like someone is waiting for me so that I think have to get moving. I can blow 30 minutes in duty free and another at Kolbi.

.

All true. But doesn't"t he still offer for tips only to and from airport for CRT members?

If that is so what is the problem with him advertising other, for fee, services he provides? Does he make you use his other services if he picks you up at that airport and you plan on hiring a driver for other excursions? Don't think so. Does he refuse to provide just for tips service if you do plan to take excursions using some one elses service? Don't think so.

I have no dog in this fight, (dog no pun intended  ) I live here and have a car so I do use the services of PVT or oneluckydogg. I believe there is enough business for both and from what I read on this board both have loyal clients so what is the problem.

We have 2 member sponsors who sell cigars. Don't see anyone upset about that.

i doubt any business has an issue with competition or believes they are entitled to a market etc.
but when you say you are giving it away thats obviously a gimmick. and his likely intention is to take the hits from the cheapest of charlies initially and then establish his "tips" at around the going rate of 25-30. at the same time he can sell trips to the beaches, arenal, etc. for the better money.
nothing wrong with it in fact. its just disingenuous. its his gimmick. people like to hear free even though theres no such thing.
what i would like to know is how he has a giant advertisement on his every post unlike any other poster. a lot of people have a business in CR and his is the only one i see w an ad in his posts. i wasn't actually aware it could be done but i would not because it would make it seem as though my every post was an attempt to advertise and make my credibility(such as it is  ) less.

Agree with all of this, disingenuous was the word I was looking for.

No dog in this either, but I'll stand by my sentiments of his "no fare for my brothers" biz plan. It may be capitalism 101, but he's playing us, especially the new guys who don't know the alternatives.

Let me clear things up from my stand point
The first time I used Sid was a bit of a WTF... I ran into another CRT guy in Mia and told him I had a ride, and ask if he wanted to split the just for tip ride. We come out of SJO and Sid meets me and my extra person, well he was only expecting me and the car is full of stuff, after some rearanging we get everything in. Next he tells us he has to stop by his bookie :D , no problem, it is just for tips, we each gave him 15 bucks, about the same as an airport taxi.
I figured I will give hime another chance. Next trip he is right there, off we go
Hey Sid I got a few stops to make, no problem Hank, where to.
Guadalupe cuz that is where my stuff is stored... shoot the shit with the landlord for abit.
Where to now Hank? I need to go to a Creit union up the street to change some $$$
Lets go... I change my wad of Cash in about ten minutes, and I am not wondering if the random airport taxi guy has had enough and driven off with my bags, never to be seen again!
That is why I like a trusted driver for pick up, your hole vacation is in thier hands or in the back of the car
Back to Sid where to now Hank. After stuffing my money in my brief case, Sid I am going to go into the supermarket while we are here. No proplem take your time.
Twenty minutes later I come out
Where to now Hank?
I forgot something at the old apartment I need to go back. OK off we go, a few moments of BS'ing with landlord. Where to Hank? San Pedro last stop!
Sid the Guy with the keys is running late, sorry, no problem. The key master showed up after a short wait.
Total tip $30... not bad

Return trip to SJO I was short on cash( wonder why)
Sid told me to keep what I had and make it up later

Not to say Sid is the best, he suits my needs.

PVT ,Duke Earl, and a few others are all good as well.

I Costa Rica many back up plans are a good thing

$15-20 per hr is fare rate for a good driver.

Really, enough for two businesses? How can PVT compete with free (or just for tips). Ask Steve how many airport trips he makes now for CRT members since Sid started? How many of you cheap bastards who used PVT for years have cast Steve adrift and are using One Lucky Dogg just to save a couple bucks. Loyality? I guess not among mongers.
