Stay at the Del Rey! Morazon is a dump. Other places you have to cab it back and give chica cab fare at the end of her stay. Almost a wash with the Rey chica fee. Stay at the Rey! Great for your first trip and others to follow. Go downstairs to take care of that 4 am woody.

Unless things have changed since late January (and they haven't  ), you should pay about $50/night at the Morazon including breakfast and safe - $60 is "rack rate"

This guy was paying $60, what's rack rate ? I also heard they charge $30 for someone who just needs an hour or two.

Not sure if you are asking what "rack rate" refers to - rack rate is the standard, non discounted, generally highest published rate a hotel charges for a particular room - the term goes back to when brochures were more popular (vs the internet) and a given hotel might quote a rate in their brochure that was on a rack somewhere - it was typically the highest, non discounted, rate for a room.

In the case of the Morazon, their "rack rates" are posted on a board behind the reception desk; $60 is their stated rate for a standard room, but as previously posted, you can get them to discount that - in late Jan., for example, I paid $50/night including breakfast, and the safe :)

Yes, they will rent you a room for an hour or 2 assuming they have the space available - not sure of the cost, but $30 sounds about right - its hit or miss acording to those who have tried it so I would not count on them having a short term room available - then again, especially in Green Season, they might - better short term place than the Hotel Asia.

Back to the OP, you should book your room to the HDR or anywhere else as soon as you know what dates you will be going down.

Thanks for the info, again, old pros or experienced negotiators can beat them down but rookies are paying those prices, that's probably why this poor sucker was paying $60 thinking he was getting a great bargain and enduring the hassle and missing out on a lot of the fun and excitement for a savings of $8 a day.

You are welcome :)

Not trying to be contentious, but its not like buying a car - when you book a hotel room, ask "Is that your best price" or "Do you have a corporate rate" or "Do you have a AAA rate?" (remember that most times they will not ask you for your business card, nor will they ask you for your AAA card)

Specifically in Costa Rica, I always ask "How many nights do I have to pay for to qualify for one free"

Point is, always ask if the quoted rate is their best, or if they can do any better (Almost every time, they will) - if you are so inclined, ask if they offer a discount for cash

You really are not beating anyone up, nor have I ever had a property react poorly when I make such an inquiry. I've even gotten over being annoyed that places don't offer their best deals up front, but I guess any business is not looking to sell its products for the lowest price possible. Key is you have to ask, as they are unlikey to volunteer such information.

(After 35 years in sales, no one was ever afraid to ask me to take a little less   :) )

PS It goes without saying but places like Sportmans, HLH, Amistead, Dunn Inn - and probably others - have CRT discounts set up - in the case of HLH, these can be a little confusing - so ASK - even if you suspect a place - like HDR or Morazon, for example - does not have any discounts for CRT VIP's, if they say no to that....ask what discounts do you offer.

Its truly not rocket science, and hotels expect to be asked about this, trust me :)
