I stayed at the Castillo my last trip and had one of the rooms with a kitchen. I went out to buy some groceries and was unpleasantly surprised at just how expensive things were. This was not a gringo establishment, it was a Mas X Menos and I think I was the only gringo there.

Knowing what most folks in CR make in a month I really don't know how they do it. Cars, electronics, food and gas are all a lot more than they are in the states. I'm beginning to understand why a lot of the girls ask for "cien". The money doesn't go very far down there.

again, you can't judge how expensive it is to live anywhere based on retail prices only (live as opposed to visit). if you lived there, your expenses as compared to the USA would involve everything it takes to live in both place and i guarantee, after you hire someone to do a few projects around your house and have someone else work on your car, you'll see that living in CR is cheaper than the USA.
