I think it's funny when someone posts a simple review with some comments, in a forum, on how a place could be better and it upsets people. LOL.

Even though I said I was out, I'll try to explain it to you so you "get it".

Most people have no problem with others posting their opinions when they are based on facts.

You didn't like your experiences with the SL. Fair enough. I don't like the Del Rey. TEHO applies.

But you didn't just talk about your experience - you complained about the SL in a way designed to imply the place has bad food, bad service, bad atmosphere, and uncaring ownership. Everyone in the know realizes none of this is accurate.

People who patronize the place read your implied accusations and know none of that is true, so they came in to refute what you implied. It's a public message board, so if you try to damage the reputation of a well-loved place, expect to see people calling you out on it.

It almost seems you had a hidden agenda. I wonder.

Hope that clears it up for you.

mh

I get this "hidden agenda" comment sometimes in forums. I guess it's just because I am opinionated and calls em as I sees em.
In any case, I do not have a hidden agenda. If I did would I say that I plan to go back to check it out next time, and that I encourage others to go and check it out for themselves?

I do expect to get people defending the place, and that's good - it shows the place has fans in spite of the things I don't like about it. There is a difference between "trying to damage the reputation" of a place and simply stating that I have some issues with it that I'd like to see resolved.

I get that people will defend it. I don't get that people get upset about constructive criticism.

I've stayed in many of the gulch hotels and at least familiar with the rest, so I take the hotel reviews on here with a grain of salt. I've been on this board long enough to recognize the fans, as well as detractors, of the gulch hotels. For instance, I have been a shameless supporter of Hotel Castillo for many years, and do not hesitate to talk the place up when asked for an opinion. Do I expect everyone to agree with my assessment? Of course not... everyone has different needs, likes and dislikes.
As far as Sportmens Lodge is concerned, I loved the place when it first opened its doors, and watched it grow in popularity. It was my main squeeze for two years. As SL expanded I realized that it no longer appealed to me as a place of accommodation, as it once did, so I moved on. I believe Sportsmens will always have a place in the gulch, though, as long as its current owner/manager stays in place. However, I think Sportsmens will have stiff competition, if Hotel Mona Lisa is successful in taking off.

Sportsmens is overrated. I don't see the attraction really. It is overpriced for what it is and the food and bar scene is mediocre, although there is not much to compare it to.

I can't believe I wasted time reading all 4 pages of this f'n nonsense. Really, your main gripe is that your dinner omelet wasn't satisfactory to you. Get the hell over it and move on. You voiced your displeasure with the place, whined about the ambiance, the girls and the food. Just don't go there. I'm sure Bill and the staff couldn't give a shit if you ever return anyway. The whole discussion has been absurd!

Bill, keep doing what you're doing. You obviously have an amazing business model going and don't change a thing. No matter what, there will always be haters hating on your success and this very much sounds like ulterior motives from this poster. I'm still in shock though, you took way to long in a conversation with a friend, who had <GASP> tattoo's, what the F were you thinking Bill!!!!!??? Hahahaha.

I guess you and others choose to ignore the others here who have the same or similar complaints, and the fact that many agree with me re the music being too loud.

I don't see how you guys have a problem with constructive criticism. Weird.
But to each his own.
Peace.

You see it. I see it. This board needs just a little moderation.

It is easy. Delete a post if it is suspect and does not add any value to the board.

Vegan Bob (Not Vegas Bob) was allowed to go on forever. A little sad.
