Saw this posted over on Flyertalk…

For those of us on the West Coast, we will have another option to SJO out of LAX starting this next December 19th. Initial listed fares (U) are around $620; but T fares should drop to around $525 - $575 range once demand is developed. A quick check shows no low level award availability; yet... mid level will cost you 60K/100K SkyPesos. The aircraft is scheduled as an International equpt 757-200 with BE seats up front. The Economy Comfort seats will also be a nice option for the relatively short 6.5 hour flight.

DL465 - Boeing 757
Dp LAX 10:15pm
Ar SJO 5:55am +1

DL 466 - Boeing 757
Dp SJO 7:10am
Ar LAX 11:30am

It will be nice to have a west coast / SJO non stop on an American based carrier again… even I might make a return for a weekend. Super Bowl, hmmm...

Mendo

That does suck. That timeframe is known as the budget monger's happy hour at HDR, 3-6am... $40 sessions.

I like the late night flights and saving 8+ hours of having to head to Salt Lake then Atlanta I will be more than happy to take the 10:15 flight. That means I can get a full day of work in before I leave and come back a day later and hit half a day of work. I prefer to actually get situated before heading out, and not gettiing into the hotel till 10pm means the SL kitchen is closed, so the Key Largo is usually where I eat my first night. This way I can get breakfast, a massage, and get rid of the nuisance nut and be ready to play that night.

I'll stick with the TACA flight that leaves around 2:30 a.m. and arrives around 9:00 or 9:30 am. MUCH better service on TACA and overall a much better experience than the DUMPY American carriers.

anything that opens up more western routes is good news, as far as I'm concerned. traveling from the northwest is such an incredible pain. Hope that expands to encompass more flights going south.

Unfortnately Delta is the only airline I can use my American Exress points on to get to Costa Rica. Currently I have to fly to Salt Lake, then Atlanta and finally to San Jose. It makes for a long day about 18 hours travel time, but it is hard to complain when it only costs me around $85.00 round trip. I usually earn enough miles per year to make 3 trips so heading out of LA for me are perfect as I can catch a cheap flight on southwest to get to LAX and back home.

I was telling someone about the different airlines that AMEX is partnered with and Frontier is listed with them now. I was able to get a flight out of Vegas to Denver and then direct to San Jose for 30,000 miles with a shorter travel time than with Delta so my total cost to fly to CR was $68.00 not too bad for using my credit card and paying things I would have paid anyway.
