Wow DC, great insight.

BJ has more problems (I'm guessing) than a start up hotel that has failed the past 8 yrs.

That being said, Amon Plaza was my prefered hotel for many trips. I wish them nothing but the best.

I know this has been asked a few times, but I have not seen a reply.... What is Nixon up to? Is he still around SJO?

you have no experience to say on how the police in this country thinks aside from speculation. there is a subsection of americans that come down here what i call parasites.. they exists on the fringes of the establishments to create some sort of authority for themselves. I see this all the time

the internet is a wonderful thing :)

cubadave

the sausage guy ( is he dead??)

don carlos the old latinblush guy

your right about some of the mona lisa issues and I hope they can get thru these challenges.. the monthly bills for the joint is about $100 grand a month.. so this is the nut they need to cover.

If you plan to leave your business to your Ch*ldren, then its a good idea for them to know the business. Waiting tables to at Del Mar seems like a good perspective for someone who is going to run the entire business some day.

I think right now, the Mona Lisa has more to worry about an electricity bill that is at least 3k a month, payroll that has to be at least 12k a month. The business still needs major capital improvements in terms of room remodeling and construction. Then there is the matter of opening the casino tables, which have huge fixed labor costs.

All, this and the Mona Lisa has not figured out how to take a credit card in Costa Rica. One of the guys running the project is having the reception call the credit cards into another business. This is an obvious sign that the owners have yet to navigate the maze of Costa Rica banking, taxes and accounting.

Whoever you think is coming to get them, either the municipality, public security police or judicial police, they are all smart enough to just wait a year. If they make payroll through the end of the year, pay everyone their legally required Christmas bonus and are still standing this time next year, that's when someone in the government might lift a finger to do something.

After all, no sense running someone out of town when more than 50 percent or more of gringos just run their business into the ground first and/or manage to get robbed by business partners.

Dear Del Rey,

Just a note to thank Big John, Greg, Tim{RIP} and Gabriella for fifteen great years of good times. The Del Rey, while never perfect, has had one stop shopping under one roof for all of my vices.

Running a hotel, bar, casino, night club and restaurant 24/7 must be a real challenge. Mixing the Costa Rican culture of manana with the American culture of right now, must keep you busy putting out fires.

I would like to apologize for the despicable comments made by Vegas Bob about Big John. As you know Vegas Bob considers himself to be an elite legendary icon in Costa Rica and on CRT. He does not speak for CRT or it's members.

Why not have your bouncers throw him out? VB likes bouncers that " tune up customers" so feel free to slam his head into a few tables, bounce his face into the front door and dent a taxi's fender with his head.

Your Amigo,

Goldenrod

Well, you are half right in your 1st paragraph  :P

While valuable, if all she knows is how to take a drink and a food order, would you expect her to run the business some day of that is the extent of her experience - I sure would not - as a banker, i lent money to mostly family buisiness' for years, and realize better than most that if you share the last name with the owner, you show up and good things tend to happen

As to the rest of your post, while you are probably correct in what you describe, I think we should let them be open for a while, maybe 6 months, and see how they are doing then - with few exceptions, there is almost never a "good" time to open any service business, always challanges :)

Hey Chili, you might want to go back and read the thread. The 'shots' started by Vegas Bob:

......and all this from a POS who has millions in the bank and makes his daughter wait tables at the Del Mar. I have no doubt that he is going to enforce this on the working chicas. Remember this is the humanitarian who refused entry to the overweight chicas. and made ALL the chicas go across the street to the Monkey Bar and purchase a drink and bring the receipt to the HDR to be allowed entrance.

What are you all worked up about?

Gentlemen,

I have noticed that the personal remarks made here about VB have been removed. I applaud this for I have been a member/discounter for going on 9 years. IMHO I really do not care for the personal remarks written on this thread about Big John either.

The information shared on this site seems to be mostly objective and meant to inform members. The free exchange of information has made this site great. Personal comments on health issues, age, personal and drinking habits are not what most of us are looking for. Again IMHO every members opinion posted here is what makes CRT a great site to read and at the readers choice become a VIP member .

I don't understand? You are 'applauding' the fact that my post has been removed but in the same breath you say that 'every members(sic) opinion posted here is what makes CRT a great site to read'. Which one is it?

It's really not difficult, the site is set up to share information related to places, events, specials and other items that assist members in having the best time possible in CR. Personal attacks, petty-name calling and other juvenile posts don't fit in that parameter and are better off not posted or deleted.

What does Big John's daughter look like? I only remember two waitresses at the Delmar.
