Well this thread may bore many of you to shreds, so feel to move on. I have 3 parts to it:

1) A plea / proposal for a fellow monger - Latinoheat
2) 1 year anniversary of visiting Costa Rica - reflections
3) Body For Life Challenge - "Hands down" I am entered

Well part 1.

Many of you know I'm a big fat guy. Proper weight if I was like 9 feet. I had put on about 20 pounds in the second half of last year (reasons below in part 2). At New Years I made Latinoheat a bet that I'd be lighter before Easter .. and I was ... a bit, then since he said he didnt notice, I said doble or nothing for Memorial Day. Well 2 weeks ago I should have been starting to get excited to go, but I had a long few nights reflecting (part 2) and came to a conclusion ... I have been half assing it trying to lose weight. If I didnt get serious, I would probably drop dead walking back from Zona Blue some day, burried in park Morazan. The reasons below explain how the switch "flicked" and I cant explain it, but I have a different mind set. As such, I have a plea for Latinoheat. My goal weight is between 210 and 225 (several dozen lbs from now). Let me push the bet to Labor Day. Others may ask why not just say "you lose." The answer is psycological. I know I WILL be there and that is not the reason I am doing it, but it is motivation. Now as Latinoheat and Paco Loco are likely laughing, I plea for seriousness. I need the support of my buds. I thought of not going this trip, not so I could avoid paying up, but rather I didnt want to slow my momentum. Thanks to helpfulinfo from Prolijo, I know I can stay the course (part 3). So, other that my plea for support to Latinoheat, I feel I need to also incent him. If I dont make my goal, I will buy you your next airfare to CR.

Part 2
For me Costa Rica has been like a drug, but rather than numb me, it is like a funny mirror at the fair. I look into it, and I have so much fun, with girls and my buds, that I felt all was ok with my life. In other words - so what if I was big, what did that matter. I have used the fun I have there to make me feel it is ok for a part of my life lacking back home. I was in the wedding party of one of my great friends (a gal) 2 weeks ago. We used to dance together (latin / ballrom) and were ranked 13th in Canada. They played a slide show and a pic of when we danced 5 years ago came up. My Gosh I was small. The size I am now is like I ate my last dance partner and am now carrying both of us. I went back to the hotel, and went thru EVERY feeble excuse I had for now getting serious and getting back in shape. I can unofficially be OCD (18 trips to CR in 1 year), but I like to call it focused on 1 thing at a time. I stayed up that night and actually wept. I thought here I am 34 years old, great job and mind and friends etc, but no girlfriend or interest and no K*ds. I was very bummed. The switch flicked and I heard Arnolds voice from some movie "quit your whinning". And that was it. Next day I focussed my energy on getting in shape. It is hard to communicate what it is inside, but there is no desire to cheat etc. Inside, I am already there, now it is just putting in the energy. We had a little weight loss bet at work and I crushed them. I am down 24 pounds so far (lower carb but not atkins, and I have had a body fat analysis each week to be sure I am not dropping muscle). I reallized how much more fun I will have in CR when I am in better shape and have enery. And I also will be able to look where on Earth I want to find someone to marry and have K*ds (I can hear the married guys with many years under there belt say RUN). I know when in CR I'll be at Matt San Pedro gym after work and sipping a Myoplex EAS drink rather than a beer. Will I have a drink or two .. yup, but clear alcohol and diet coke. No more JRs (except for steamed veggies and grilled chicken) and no cappicinos.

Part 3

I have so much to lose that I likely wont win, but I have entered the bodyforlife challenge for the most radical 12 week transformation. I am taking a photo each week and the best 12 week span I will enter. I may not win but I know I will be mentioned somewhere.

Well again this probably made many of you bored, or laugh hysterically. I am sharing from the heart ....

Handy

Hand Solo--
Great introspection and a way to achieve your goal

Best inspiration is to fall in love with a 90-100 lb Tica and imagine not to smother and/or crush her to death

First time in CR for me I was 225 lbs-- then the LOVE thing with a flaca Tica --- and I made myself lose 50 lbs to 175 in about 6 months by a strict diet and exercise program. :o
Felt 20 years younger, and my annual medical tests revealed amazing improvements in all the vitals :D

Wishing you success  Paco Loco y Latino Heat buddies notwithstanding
Eat your hearts out to help K. slim down

Cygnus

Congratulations on the decision...you can low carb w/o atkins, I have done it with amazin results. Keep at it and do not do it for a bet, do it so you can keep enjoying the things you like in life for years to come.

Good luck!

Hey Handy, Latinoheat is the heartless one, not me. :)

Seriously though,
I am thrilled to hear of your decision/commitment, and you have my full support. It sounds like you have made up your mind and are focused, good for you amigo-stay that way. Perhaps that night was your "moment of clarity."

Since we're gettin' honest here Handy, I was personally disappointed that you didn't lose like you wanted by Easter, we joke around a lot, but having experience in the addictionology field I have some insight and feel for people that struggle with the various "fixes" (booze, drugs, gambling, work, relationships, food, smoking, and even sex, etc...) And trust me, I know how hard it is to change. I've seen plenty of people not make it so seeing someone overcome these things that are dragging them down to an early grave really gives me a charge, especially when it's a friend.
So to further motivate you I will happily pay for the chica of your choice at ZB Labor Day if you stick to your plan, and from what you've written I think you will.

Now that you've gotten my hopes up,
don't let me down or I'll personally kick your ass.

K-This was perhaps the first post of yours that has not made me laugh hysterically. Since I was with you at the "official" weigh in last Feb I have often wondered how you were doing with your bet with LH.Whether or not you acheive your "goal-weight" the very fact you have made the commitment to get in shape is the most important decision you have made in the last year.

Buena suerte amigo.

My last Tica date arrived in her gym suit -- sleek black y muy flaca -- and apologized for coming direct from gym, but you know I was lovin' it, a good good thing that perfect shape!

And I've been to the gym every day since I got back home...those spinners love it when you can lightly toss 'em around a bit in bed, don't they?

You're on track, bro, and the inspiration is right there on arrival each trip; no, it doesn't solve all our problems, but it goes a long way toward getting on an even keel with many of them.

Thanks for the encouraging words.

I had my bodyfat analysis, RMR measured and "Age profile" last night.

It is funny, I am 34, and they run a series of tests to say "how old you seem". I was thinking in mid forties.

I was 39.

Well off to have a protein shake.

thx again

why nothing from Latinoheat?

Do you realize how expensive it is to travel from Tennessee? I would be satisfied with a couple free sessions at ZB or IDEM as a $500 ticket would almost make me feel "what's the term" guilty  It doesn't seem fair, but your ON BITCH!

I almost feel "guilty" since I have nothing to lose, so I will also pay for a free ZB session for you IF you manage to weigh "210 pounds" by Labor Day. WOW! possibly 2 freebies counting Paco's offer :P

By the way quit crying you big baby your right hand will always love you, let me know if you ever get it pregnant.
