Hello Gentlemen. I have been looking to expand my mongering horizons and I am planning on a trip to San Jose. I want to put a rough idea of my itinerary and planned budget and see if I am in or out of line. I am not a VIP member yet but I will sign up soon, I just need to get this trip signed off on by the jerk offs above my pay grade.

Flight:
Departure on June 27 from Newark to SJO (nonstop)
Return on July 3 SJO to Newark (nonstop)

Should I stay through Fourth of July? I know it is not the USA but I figure with a lot of expats in the country it might be worth staying through. No reason to - or not to - its our Independence Day, not theirs after all- unaware of big celebrations

I am planning on staying at the Sportsmen's Lodge. I was originally thinking of staying at the Del Rey but many reviews on this site have made me change my mind about that. I am looking for advice on which type of room at the SL I should book. Prices seem to swing a bit wildly depending on the "wing" you are booking. You made a wise choice, Grasshopper - Can't help you too much on the rooms there, but try a search; been there many times, have seen many rooms, but have never stayed there - I can tell you MY preference would be to totally avoid the rooms off the bar and entry; can be loud - anything else is likely OK - and much more quiet. June is green season; you need to join CRT as a paid member; you will also get a discount on room, meals, and drinks at Sportmans w/ the CRT VIP Card -

Entertainment:
Outside of that I am thinking $300 a day for ticas and incidentals should see me through. Is this enough or too much? I will probably pick up a Del Rey girl or two during my trip but I will be looking at visiting the Gulch as well. Speaking of which, I have heard of the "Gringo Gulch" but none of the threads I have seen in the newbie section actually spell out where it is.
Its probably fine, although it would be too much for me (Pack fewer clothes and more money is good advice ) - would be more than my budget, but its your first trip so you are going to <likely> pay more than when you have a few trips under your belt.
You hit on a "peeve" of mine - a tica is another word for Costa Rican female; that's all it means - not another word to denote or describe a prostitute - it s highly offensive to Costa Ricans (as well as guys in the know) so please don't use it in that way
Gringo Gulch is roughly the area within a few block radius of the Hotel Del Rey - which you should visit - bear in mind that the Sportsmans has girls there too, so "cast your bucket down where you are, so to speak"

I will need to spend most of my arrival day doing some touristy BS because I need to have pictures to show family and co-workers of all the things I saw in San Jose. So I might go to the volcanoes or museums but outside of that I am looking to enjoy my time with as many girls as I can. Where do you recommend I go? I am looking not to leave the San Jose area.

I honestly don't know how practicle this is even if you arrive very early - and its not like the Volcano's, etc, are a 10 min ride away - you could take a tour - your hotel can help you - was called a "5 in 1" worth it and not super expensive - you can do the zip line out of San Jose - you can do an all day trip on the Paquare River and run the rapids - you could do a long day trip to Arenal, the most famouls of Costa Rica's volcanos - lots of options - just likely not on your first day -

A great way to get smart in a short amount of time is take a walking tour - you will see the high spots - and it will make you more knowledgeable than many - all of the mames may be available - and all can be reached vis PM on this site: Pops, Bilko, Puravidatransport, Oneluckydog, BangBang57 - Lets face it; you wannna Phuck, but have zero clue about the place - not the end of the world, and a tour will explan everything as would a really good wingman - but since this can be a hit or miss proposition, try the tour, as many, even those well meaning, tend not to know the full scene in San Jose, and there are great MP's you should be going to - have a great trip

I just returend from CR after a five year absence, and stayed at the SL. Hopefully I will get around to a TR this weekend. IMO, CR has changed greatly in the past five years.

First join CRT if for nothing else the discount.

If you want to stay at the SL I would book it now, or you may not have a choice. The SL, especially on holidays books months in advance. The rooms range from the clubhouse, an area kind of off by itself that are O.K., and has a sitting area. The Courtyard, most people find "noisy" before 11:30 PM, and hearing the clitter clatter of heels on the tile at all hours. The Modern Wing (the only rooms I have personally stayed in) that are very nice about $100 per night with CRT discount. The new Mansion wing that are the "cream of the crop". You can look at the costs on their web-site. I was just there for six nights, stayed in the modern wing, ate most of my meals there, and bought plenty of drinks. My tab was just under $1,000.00. The ladies were extra. If you choose, you can find several wingmen at the SL.

I would say if you do not dance, to take a few lessons now, or let your hair down and just do it. No one is really looking at you anyway, unless you can really shake that thing, then they all look. I cannot tell you how many women attached themselves to me dirty dancing. My whole trip was women shaking their bodies at me (dancing), and laughing. I was asked several times to go out with ladies to clubs to dance, but the only ones I took up on were in la cama. It was very interesting being a fat, old fart. Even in the room they would want to dance while dis-robing.
