Article posted today in the Tico Times. What you don't see is that one of the Colombia President's requirement is reciprocity on VISAS. At present, Ticos don't need a visa to go to Colombia, but Colombians need a visa, which is difficult. It is very possible that in s short time you might see a ton of cute Colombians in CR. Remember the old days?

Costa Rica resumes free-trade negotiations with Colombia
Posted: Monday, February 04, 2013 - By AFP
Treaty would allow Costa Rica to become a full member of the Pacific Alliance.
Officials from Costa Rica and Colombia on Monday began a fourth round of free-trade negotiations that are expected to address the most sensitive issues of market access, officials said.

“We enter the final stage of a negotiation that seeks to achieve a balance between our offensive and defensive interests,” Costa Rican Foreign Trade Minister Anabel González said in San José, where talks are taking place.

She said that in a previous round of talks officials closed 41 chapters in access to markets and 70 chapters on specific rules, among which are those applied to meat, fruits, vegetables, coffee, milk, cereals, pharmaceuticals and aluminum products.

However, rules remain unresolved for access to a number of industrial products that Costa Rica asked to exclude from the treaty, arguing they would be at a disadvantage position against Colombian products.

The list includes plastic, chemicals, textiles, electronics, leather, footwear, paper and cardboard.

“Negotiations with Colombia are a natural step for Costa Rica, which would increase our presence in this market and promote the creation of larger and stronger trade links in South America, beyond those we already have with Chile and Perú,” González said.

The treaty also “opens the opportunity for Costa Rica to become a full member of the Pacific Alliance, which will strengthen the bonds with major Latin American economies such as Mexico, Chile, Peru and Colombia," she added.

In 2011, Costa Rica exported to Colombia $48 million in goods and services and imported $455 million. Officials hope that the signing of the treaty will enhance opportunities for domestic producers in a market of 46 million people with a higher purchasing power.

Good relevant post.
But, please, it's COLOMBIANS. Not columbians. No such thing as columbians. The country is Colombia.

No doubt, the Ticas would have a huge disadvantage trying to compete with Colombianas!

Good news for CR lovers, but I will still prefer to source my Colombiana chimba from where it is natively grown. :-)

I hope those Ticas & Dominicanas that have been squatting in Juan Valdez corner @ the DelRey for the last few years clear out gracefully so the super-hot Colombianas can reclaim their rightful piece of real estate!!!

Good call:

If this influx of new talent actually occurs it could be the catalyst this new hotel everyone is talking about ned's to get its foot in the door of a very crowded market. Super-hot Colombians will deftly displace what would be viable but not necessarily first choices on the floor of the DelRey. Rationally they will move to the vacuum created by new floor space at the Mona Lisa. Providing them with a place to ply their trade and the hotel the attraction it needs.

why? aren't the Colombianas the reason why the P4P scene in CR have gotten expensive and hardcore? That was told to me by some veteran mongerers who been coming down here for 15yrs plus.

my post was meant as a joke. I've been coming to CR for 9 years & the 1st 5 yrs or so I spent many hours at tables in the lobby bar of the DR with fellow crt-ers with whom we used to eyeball the super-hot Colombianas hangin in what we called Juan Valdez corner. They were great to look at, but knowing better, we always spent our money on the other more fun & service oriented talent available in the building.

For all of you who have never been to Colombia, these types of characterizations are totally misleading. You see, Colombia is home to some of the sexiest and sweetest women on the planet. With few exceptions every girl I have ever known down there was sweet and deferential. They normally are not too demanding and/or are afraid to negotiate. Even in strip clubs the girls are sweethearts and can be very passionate. The hotter the girl you meet the sweeter they can be. Of course these are all generalizations, but they seem to hold true most of the time.

As the girls get older, their market value goes down because there is always a constant supply of fresh young girls on the scene. Many of the older more experienced girls go abroad to ply their skills. This when they become jaded or hardened. So, the hardcore image of Colombian women is not representative of what one normally finds when visiting Colombia.
