Do they guarantee 90?

Is it just SJO airport immigration that is being funny about the days?

Can't say about a guarantee perhaps One Lucky Dogg can answer that.

As to the second question no it is not just at the airport. Land crossings at both the Nicaragua and Panama crossing also have been reported to give less then 90 days to some. I not heard either way about Liberia airport.

I can understand it at the Panama Nicaragua borders where they reasonably suspect a perpetual tourist. One review of his passport should do it.

I know the push is on to crack down on that and CR has made it fairly easy to obtain residency.

But, at the airport with a passport showing years and years of visits with repeated subtantial periods out of the country without the quickie re-entries?

What difference does it make to them to give you 10 or 30 or whatever's the date on your return ticket. Stuff happens where a fella has to change return flights for innumerable reasons--like illness, an accident, having way too much fun, whatever. So I don't get why not just give guys 90 days as their law allows, absent evidence of perpetual tourism, to get out of Dodge and/or time to adjust their status via legal means.

my last time in i was asked if 14 days was enough. and it was so it was no big deal. but that was the first time i had been asked the question.

A trip or 2 ago, an immigration officer - I assume that is what he was; wearing like a police <light blue> uniform, while the others dress in civilian clothes - for the first time I can recall in many trips - asked to see my return ticket, and stamped my passport accordinly (for 6days later) - this is the first i can recall I was not stamped in for 90 days - he was kind of abrupt in manner, not friendly.

I don't really fit the description of a monger, nor do I dress the part (if you have no idea what I'm talking about go to the DelRey and look around :P  ) - plus I greeted him in spanish.

I guess it did not matter as I was returning as per the date of my ticket. But his demeanor and the fact "90 days" is subject to immigration approval stuck with me.
