You can still smoke in your room.

a smokers place stops @my face. even the developing countries are realizing that shit addiction belongs in the nearest dumpster.

I will assume the premise of your comments on smoking are based on health issues?

I have bad news for you. The air in the Gulch is much worse than terrible. The exhaust fumes from cars alone will make you sicker than any 2nd hand cigarette smoke. The toxic air in san jose is the one you should be concern with.

If you are as concerned as you seem to be, we will expect to see you wearing a mask during your next visit.

The problem with your premise is that it assumes if air quality is already bad, one should therefore accept it being made worse by the addition of cigar/cigarette smoke, as though it's an all or nothing issue - either clean air or anything goes.

typical. try as you will to deflect – and while climate change exists doesn’t excuse away the disastrous effects caused by your filthy addiction.

what, a few cigars a week :?: - as I've previously posted - one - one single 747 flying from NY to LA puts more pollution into the air than all the cigars smoked in the USA in a year (Lew Rothman, JR Tobacco)

I will grant you there is climate change; just will not concede its due to smokers, and would be over if no one had ever smoked - especially cigar smokers

You really don't want to open up this can of worms, do you :?: - because its like politics and religion - and just about as boring discussing it

that's just not it at all. it's a sophomoric angle from the afflicted; 'look over there'. rather than staying on topic they choose to conflate matters in a remedial attempt to create confusion. his chosen path and not mine. the reality is tobacco consumption in confined spaces exposes the non addicted to a whole host of things. few can argue this - at least coherently. and besides; you're chatting with a fellow aficionado who would never infringe upon anybody's airspace.

deflect? LOL I don't smoke cigarettes, never have. I'm simply pointing out that if you have a problem with smoke related health issues then you might want to consider the smoke in the air in San Jose as well.

This whole thread is becoming ludicrous. I mean accommodation, premium cigars, 747's, climate change, restraint of trade, gulch air pollution, etc. the list of mitigating reason that the ban is wrong just continue.

What is missing is the simple fact, whether you agree or disagree with the law. it is the law that was approved by over a 95% affirmative vote of the legislative body of the Costa Rica government.

You do not have to agree with it and you do not have to abide by it unless you choose to visit Costa Rica. You have that choice so lets just drop the rhetoric and move on. Your time would be more productive studying travel brochures to find a place that welcomes smokers.

PS With the exception of my patio, car, boat, and my downstairs TV room (and some friends patio's)...... I'm trying to find another such place, but cigar smokers seem to be hated the world over  :( :o :?  :)

I smoke, and personally dont care if there are bans. You cant even smoke within X feet of a business in towns/cities in Canada, and thus unless you want to stand in the middle of the street you can't smoke. Also, where I smoke you can't smoke even in your own car if you have someone under the age of 18 in your vehicle. If you want to smoke that bad, you make due.

In my experience, and I have not witnessed the CR ban personally, these things tend to deflect in that the majority of business's will abide by the rules, while a handful will defect and attract the smokers. So Im sure if you want to dig around for a place that will let you chain smoke away, go find it.

Is it really that big of a deal to get off your ass and walk outside and light up your cigarette? Your a a whole like what 20 feet from a doorway?

Personally, even in the places where chain smoking is consistent; youll see guys in Thailand smoke half a pack in 30 minutes your in a bar, I've always been aware of those around me. If anyone is sitting super close, I blow my smoke up, hold my cigarette away from them, or blow it in the direction of another smoker next to me. Does it solve the problem? No, but Im sure they appreciate not having smoke blown in their face. However in my experience, most people don't care. They smoke around everyone, blow smoke at whoever, basically hold their cigarette over your drink, and could care less what you think.

I love to smoke and drink as much as the next guy, but a little compromise and a little common courtesy goes a long way.
