I'm a fellow hobbiest from ATL, Ga and I found this web site lasr night. Anyone ever comes to my town and I can give u the run down, but I have been reading about CR and I figured I have to try it, ill be there from 17th-21st. I'm staying at the Holiday Inn downtown and I hope they don't bust my chops when it comes to bring in guest. I have 2 big ? Should I do most of my business in green backs or colones? I have taken plenty of notes for things to do in SJO, but ill be in Jaco a few days. How is the action & where to go? Do I need to bring some one from SJO? I appreciate ur postings since this is a blind trip ur board is helping me out.

You will find the place to be a dual currency country. Either dollars or colon is fine. My opinion is that I usually get a little better deal in colones. As to Jaco: I was there in February. There was more than enough action locally at the Beatle Bar. Its not 24/7 like the Marlin. The ladies start to stroll in around 5pm. In the past many on the board have suggested bringing your date from SJ. I think things have picked up in Jaco.

BM (Blue Marlin) is a bar inside DR (Hotel del Rey), and yes, that should be your first stop tonight. Have fun!

Hi Badhabitz. Just saw your post this morning, so by now you have undoubtedly had your indoctrination. Many guys never leave the confines of the Blue Marlin and the DR on their first trip. A small tip: check out the Colonial Casino next door to the DR. Go out the side door in the bar, turn left and walk 30 feet. You'll be there; its on your left. I often eat, drink and gamble there. Its a quiet respite from the frenzy of the Blue Marlin. Price for beer and food is half of what it is at the Del Rey. Atmosphere nice. Service slow but friendly. They generally keep the girls out of there. After a while some of the girls kind of get on my nerves. Hope you like the Holiday Inn. Most guys here on the board don't. I do. The $20 charge is outrageous, but the place is relatively quiet and the service is good. DO watch out walking through that park at night. In fact, don't do it. Seems ridiculous to pay $2 for a 60 second taxi, but its really worth it. Daytime, its just fine. I keep hearing good things about the Sportsman Hotel. Any comments from board members who have checked it out? -Gopher
