Ive stayed at all motels and seem to go back to the Freebird....my last stay was when Boyd was still at the HLH, its was a pretty good experience I just thought it was a bit noisy...I didnt like the interrogation at the front desk when I came in late....

I've thought about staying there but think its a pretty sleazy area. The rooms are decent. Why were you interrogated?

Not going to find any rooms at the popular monger hotels in San Jose at the end of January because Super Bowl Sunday is February 3.

This sounds like your best shot:

Hey guys, Regarding the old " Clarion Hotel " in Barrio Amon in San Jose. It's going to be called " Hotel Mona Lisa " and scheduled opening in January 18th to 20th in time for the " Superbowl " . We are working on a Website but it's not finished yet , but if you have Facebook we do have a sneak preview and pictures on Facebook.. Go to Facebook and type in " Mona Lisa Hotel Costa Rica " and you can see pictures of the Hotel and rooms , etc.. We have rooms priced from $49.99 for a standard room to the master suite with a living room , King bed and two bathrooms for $169.99 per night.. I will let you all know as soon as we have a webpage and phone number to make reservations... Guy

Book a room someplace and then you can cancel if the Mona Lisa opens on time.

I booked a room at the Del Rey for my first few days. First time staying there for me. I think it will be cool being in the belly of the beast for a few days   . Then I will move somewhere else once I get situated.

I know about all the chica fees, etc

1st Choice: The one and only, Historic Sportsman's Lodge.

2nd Great Option. Freebird.

I messaged Guy via facebook and the reply I got a few days later was that they are unable to book at this time. I was asking about booking between the 24th and 30th of January. No further update given. Plan on staying elsewhere would be my recommendation.

I don't understand the big deal with avoiding the courtyard. Yes, it's noisy. But who's there to sleep? I dunno, maybe I'm an extra-deep sleeper but the noise didn't bother me when I stayed there.

The thing to watch out for is the windows that front on the bar area. The maids tie the curtains back when they clean the rooms in the daytime. If you're not careful you could end up giving the entire bar a free show. :D

Wow, that's ridiculous.

Check with Hotel Castillo. It was the only place I stayed during my last 10 trips to Costa Rica.

The Hemingway Inn may have space on short notice. Convenient location, good prices, medium quality.
