Funny you should mention Baileys. That drink was definitely on the list for me. I've always made a policy if I'm hanging with a chica and she orders Baileys I cross her off as a potential immediately. The reason being is that mostly they drink it solely because it is higher priced. I have found that anytime a chica orders one of the really expensive premium drinks when she has just met a guy she is trouble. I will be flying out on Wednesday and return 2 weeks later. I come in around 8 in the evening. 2 months ago when I came in at that time I believe duty free was still open upstairs and we definitely walked by it. I will pay attention this time when I return. I don't drink anymore, so twist my arm and ask me nicely and I might pick up a bottle for someone on my way back in.

I'll be a few weeks behind you but I'd appreciate if you post re: the arrival level duty frees being open. The security plan, which I do not know is yet in place, is to funnel all arriving passengers directly downstairs somehow which means the newly expanded duty free by the carrousels are your only option and that means it is going to be jammed. I try to get alot done when I arrive, duty free, several Kolbi phone issues, money, call my pick up driver, etc., so I need to know if I need to make a dash or just my usual quick pace. Thanks.

Sorry TW with all due respect I have to disagree. I have a very well stocked bar at my casa and most of the stuff is top shelf. When I offer a chica a drink they look over the selection and almost invariably take Baileys even though there are more expensive selections available.

I believe it is their drink of choice because it is very smooth and they can consume quite a bit without getting drunk as it is 17% alcohol which is about half of most other stuff in Costa Rica.

Last weekend Walmart had "Baileys Day" and Ticos were buying the stuff like crazy and from the looks of them and their manner of dress they were not nocturnal hostesses. So it seems that Ticos just like the stuff.

Have to admit I do also. :D

Yes, with the sweet taste I can actually see that. Should have elaborated a little more. I used that as a reason to cross chicas off the list when it was a situation where I had just met them at the bar. I pick and choose the few times I buy drinks for chicas and just thought that I might be better off moving on if they ordered one after just becoming acquainted. Never said anything or was less than polite. Always just made some excuse, but it would be the same way with new buddy I met. If I offered to buy somebody a drink and they hit me for a premium right off the bat, I would probably excuse myself.

I have found that too, if they order a shot of Patron right off the bat it is a bad sign. It makes me feel like a sucker, which sort of taints the good time for me. I have had a chica buy me a beer, which really turns me on, even if I end up paying for her other drinks.

Try Hypermas aka walmart, ( if you have the time ) 5 Liter jug of Flor de Cana $ 30- $ 40 If I remember, If you could buy that in Canada it would be close to $ 100
But I agree duty free IS better bet, I never do it though.

When they order a high price drink I feel like they are taking advantage of my "being a gringo". I will pay but then move on
