The Morazon, like the Europa and the Royal Dutch are part of a $800,000,000 ( I think that is about the amount, whatever it's a lot of money)Ponzi scheme that the "CUBAN" perpetrated here in Costa Rica and is supposedly in PC at the Europa.
With that said you don't need much of a business model to keep a money laundering front open and call it a Hotel
A quick primer for those who were not familiar with the alleged Ponzi schemes that existed in Costa Rica from the early eighties until early 2004.
The biggest and best known were Enriique and Osvaldo Viillalobos AKA "The Brothers". Enrique fled the country with a rumored 1 billion in cash safely deposited somewhere and has seemed to have successfully vanished. Osvaldo stayed around and was convicted of money laundering not fraud and is serving his sentence in a senior citizen lockup.
Luis Milanes AKA "The Cuban". A later entrant in the game and a smaller operation then the Brothers. Said to have fled with about $200 million. Returned a few years later and was not prosecuted because he reached a deal with creditors to return some money. Linchpin of the deal is the sale of the Europa Hotel but estimates of its value vary widely. Milanes is reportedly living in the penthouse at the hotel and is seen around always accompanied by bodyguards.
There were some other smaller operations such as The Vault but they all folded about the same time. Many expats lost the funding that allowed them to live in Costa Rica and there were reported suicides in the expatriate community. There were also some chicas who were investors. Some had a novio set them up with an account ( a montly RFM without the need for the drama and story telling

) and other invested their own proceeds from working.
If the Morazon ever did stay open because of money laundering, which is unproven speculation only,it certainly is not staying open doing that.
It exists because the HDR is one block away. Close the HDR and the Morazan will either be sold and refurbished to become a tourist hotel or just fold. Even without the HDR it is a great location for a tourist hotel.
