I tend to be more of a positive thinker. Morazan has stayed in business a long time despite poor management, sub-standard rooms, constant mechanical problems (elevators- plumbing etc). If they can make it---why not a classier place. I hope you are wrong Chilimike---but new businesses are hard to get off the ground and you probably know what your talking about.

Positive is one thing.....misinformed is another

The Morazon, like the Europa and the Royal Dutch are part of a $800,000,000 ( I think that is about the amount, whatever it's a lot of money)Ponzi scheme that the "CUBAN" perpetrated here in Costa Rica and is supposedly in PC at the Europa.

With that said you don't need much of a business model to keep a money laundering front open and call it a Hotel

A quick primer for those who were not familiar with the alleged Ponzi schemes that existed in Costa Rica from the early eighties until early 2004.

The biggest and best known were Enriique and Osvaldo Viillalobos AKA "The Brothers". Enrique fled the country with a rumored 1 billion in cash safely deposited somewhere and has seemed to have successfully vanished. Osvaldo stayed around and was convicted of money laundering not fraud and is serving his sentence in a senior citizen lockup.

Luis Milanes AKA "The Cuban". A later entrant in the game and a smaller operation then the Brothers. Said to have fled with about $200 million. Returned a few years later and was not prosecuted because he reached a deal with creditors to return some money. Linchpin of the deal is the sale of the Europa Hotel but estimates of its value vary widely. Milanes is reportedly living in the penthouse at the hotel and is seen around always accompanied by bodyguards.

There were some other smaller operations such as The Vault but they all folded about the same time. Many expats lost the funding that allowed them to live in Costa Rica and there were reported suicides in the expatriate community. There were also some chicas who were investors. Some had a novio set them up with an account ( a montly RFM without the need for the drama and story telling  ) and other invested their own proceeds from working.

If the Morazon ever did stay open because of money laundering, which is unproven speculation only,it certainly is not staying open doing that.

It exists because the HDR is one block away. Close the HDR and the Morazan will either be sold and refurbished to become a tourist hotel or just fold. Even without the HDR it is a great location for a tourist hotel.

would that be the cash price inclusive of taxes, fees, etc...? is there a multiple nite stay/ weekly rated discount?

Jeez he quoted 50 bucks a night and you want to know if it includes taxes? What, are you looking to save a few bucks and stay somewhere else if it doesn't?

True... It is hard to free fools from the chains they revere. There are plenty of guys who will do the goat march through the Rey because they lack the capacity to follow their own path. But even they will follow the other goats down the hill to greener pastures.

Jeeze, you phuck one goat, and then you get labled a goatphucker forever.

appreciate the advice jackie - however, i'm on the road some 260 each year in various countries and while i wish i had the size of your packet book the fees simply add up and i'd rather not spend the money unnecessarily.

Interesting.....glad to see the "herd" mentality is alive and well - Guy went from the devil (the guy hired to replace the sainted Boyd) to now 4+ pages of well wishes - which is fine as he did nothing to deserve the vitriol flung at him by some (you know who you are) on this board.

I don't know Guy, but wish him the best in his new position (at least he - unlike Jeff at HLH) posts and seems to "get" the fact that some of his most loyal customers will come from CRT.

Gentlemen: Is it really necessary to comment on every thread - I said this last night and I'll say it again - If you have nothing of substance to add to a particular thread Than keep your hands of your keyboard.

The addition of barbs towards a poster no matter who it is in any subject is not going to be tolerated here. I have had enough.

I will not SAY This again!

I have walked around that property so many times. With a parking lot, a restaurant, bar, casino and a great location I would love to see it reopen. Has anyone been inside of it in the past two years? If it does reopen I would love to stay there for the price if it looks anything close to the photos which look like they were scarfed off of an architect's proposal rather than than real thing as they were posted in July and this is now December. I would hate to book and then learn it is still closed when the taxi rolls up to the door.
