Duty free is the best bet. Crown Royal .75 liter $17.00 USD.

You can buy up to 6 bottles.

1 liter Crown Royal for $19 at duty free is the best deal. However I have made mistakes in the past and this just my humble opinion.

Hey Guys, just to let you know, Duty Free was closed today, downstairs at SJO. Might want to get your duty free in the states until they open.

I've given more good advice and helped more than I can think of by sharing knowlwdge and experience gained over the past 15 years of travel to Costa Rica - and for you to mention 'cant and not me is a major mistake - obvious 'cant was either drunk or hung over when he posted - because he knows what - and where a phucking smiley face is.

just kidding  :) - but you can see how someone - a new poster especially - could thake things wrong - especially since a smiley face or 2 goes a long way - also posting sober goes a long way -

My apologies, a MAJOR oversight on my part! :D "Posting sober?" What the hell is that all about?

Sid: I guess that means they have implemented the new egress for arriving passengers so now you don't have access to the duty free on arrival floor, direct to lower floor immigration?

well crap Sid that was one of the good deals upon arriving, getting booze and tobaco to take with you at good prices.
Are they relocating, or remodeling or will it be closed forever?

I'm sorry I forgot the smiles icons. I thought the part where I wished him a robbery just for not thanking me was obvious.
Were all in the same gang here.

Jetsetter747, thanks for the kind words.

Thirdworld, several of your post lately are showing your wisdom. I'm working on that part.

Scuba, your idea was on the money.

Anyone with a brain (ooooops - sorry - forgot we are talking CRT here - better clarify   ) knows that famous line from Goodfellas, spoken by Billy Batts, to Tommy, played by Joe Pescci, at the bar, which later got him killed by Tommy/Joe - great movie!  :)

I think it is just a remodel. Heck, booze and cig tax on gringos coming into the country is half of their revenue. Gringos leaving and getting duty free is the other half. I'll find out for sure and let you guys know what's going on.

The Duty Free has re-opened downstairs but I here they have a limited supply. Maybe things will get back to normal in a week or so.

I asked this last week but didn't get an answer. Arriving passengers no longer have access to the two Duty Free shops on the arrival level? I know the plan was to tunnel all arriving passengers directly down stairs to immigration for security reasons--so is that now the situation?

If not the duty free then you can just make a short trip to the Mas Por Menos supermarket only a couple of blocks away off the pedestrian drag. Might as well get your mix there too. and your snacks. lol

prices are just as good too, for basic liquors.

lots of good contributors here guys. credit where credit's due. We all get information from lots of guys here, so a general thank you to all is in order. :D

Bailey's is a chica favorite & there is quite a price diff between duty-free & mas/menos. A 750ml bottle of Bailey's bought in a 2-pk is $19usd each @ duty-free; @ mas/menos it's $32usd

Prices at Mas x Menos, Walmart, Auto Mercado, etc are considerably higher then the SJO duty free for anything whether it be "basic" liquor, premium brands, wine or cordials. If at all possible buy what you need at the airport duty free.
