Regarding mongering: sooo, Is it worth it to go spend a nite (or 2) at Jaco in July? I've heard that the Beatle Bar action/choices are better than the BM in San jose, but it sounds like the temp is over 100F!! And at night! Tell me it ain't so!

So, crappy weather, and gr8 bar, or stay the entire 5 days in SJ with gr8 weather? I need your advice!

Actually, being so much closer to the equator than we are up here in the US, the temperatures in CR do not vary that much. In Jaco, the typical temperature stays pretty much in the low to mid 80F range during the day. Rainfall and hence relative humidity are a whole other story and can make the perceived temperature seem much higher (aka the Heat Index). Ironically, it can actually be much cooler at night during the rainy season.

If you notice the average temps in Jaco in July are actually slightly lower than they are in April and rainfall, though still higher than during the dry season, actually drop significantly during July and August. This phenomenon is known as the veranillo or the little spring.

I'll leave you with one last link. http://www.weatherimages.org/data/heatindex.html This helps you figure out the heat index if you have the air temp and relative humidity. We have an estimated temp of 85F but the charts only go down to 90F, so we have to use the calculator that you'll find way down at the bottom of the page. We don't have the exact relative humidity amounts, so I tried plugging in different figures. At 85F and 50%RH the apparent temp seems to rise only 1 degree to 86F. However at 75%RH the temperature will seem more like 95F and at 100%RH it seems like a sweltering 107F. But thats during the height of the day by nightfall it has usually rained, dropping the RH significantly as well as the temps.

Thats still way too hot for me. I'd be afraid to go out on the beach during the day as I might melt. I'd stay in SJ or the mountains if I were you. Besides, where did you hear that "the Beatle Bar action/choices are better than the BM in San jose". I've never heard that.

I was in Jaco April 16-20. The temperature never got out of the 80s but the humidity was incredible. It is just plain uncomfortable, even at night. I grew up in KY and know something about heat and humidity. But WOW it was hot.

It is, however, somewhat cooler on the beach. There usually is a nice breeze. I had a room with a patio about 40 feet from the beach. I ate lunch on the patio everyday, while ocean gazing, and didn't melt too badly. The ocean breeze is blocked from almost all of the main street in Jaco. So it is very warm in town (which isn't very far from the beach).

Even though it was very hot I had a good time. You get SOMEWHAT use to the heat. I know some mongers prefer the Beatle Bar to the BM. IMO the selection and ratio at the BM is much better. No way is the Beatle Bar better than the DR!

Except for the excellent music, the scene is almost identical. Except that the BB is much smaller than the DR.

Based on Feb. '05 investigation: For a good negotiator, prices at the Beatle Bar are similar to the Blue Marlin. Selection is smaller, but similar in quality. Ratio guys/gals also similar. Its a smaller league, so for both sides of the transaction there will be more day to day variance.

i was there in july 04, and it seemed like the first night we got into town there were puta's everywhere.. we went into the BB and girls just kept coming up to me and grabbing my dick... we left the BB and girls on the street were doing the same thing... the town was full of hotties asking for action. but for some reason, it was only on that weekend and i think it might have been because of a CR holiday. but anyway, the BB was full of chicks every night expecially on weekends, and imho, its a good scene because there's other crap to do there besides just bang chicas
