I was born/raised in TO (Dufferin & Bloor area close to CNE). Late Jan/Feb is when we get the deep cold.
For many years Jaguar Motors had a cold testing facility in town. Very hush hush.
Shania only showed up once to her "shrine"....due to lack of visitors...it was renamed ...
"Timmins Museum: National Exhibition Centre" ...we burned her dresses for heat 8)

Just a suggestion without research....... have you thought of trying to find a cheap early morning flight to Orlando and then book the JetBlue direct flight to SJO. The JetBlue flight typically leaves after 10:00 AM EST and is priced in the $320 to $350 range round trip.

If you are going in March/April, you could get a flight with Taca, yyz-sal-sjo, for between $500-600. It usually departs at 10:45am and arrive in sjo at 4pm. The good thing with Taca is that they have daily departures. It cost you $345 from Timmins to T.O..WTF!

I might have to do the Air Transat flight on christmas day and return new years day. I'm a bit flexible with my dates and I could leave with a moments notice....just have to return to T.O by the first week of Jan. Company shuts down just before christmas and opens up first week of jan. The shut down doesn't count as vacation time :D :D :D :D :D July was my first time to sj and I've down 2 more trips since than. I guess I've developed an addiction

cheers,
Attila

Know the area well, as a K*D I lived by Queen/Bathurst for a few years. Why Timmins, beautiful part of N.Ontario. The area is a hot bed for gold mining. Have a few shares of Co. looking/mining for gold up there.

cheers,
Attila

Attila, I grew up on Brock Ave right behind the Dufferin Mall. I found my old house on google maps :D
I left TO and moved to the Sault Ste Marie ONT in early '80s then to Sudbury in 1998 then Timmins 1999.
Worked for mining companies for 20 yrs. Your right Timmins has gold and its a boom town!!
When the 2008 melt down happened we didn't even feel it up here. Gold just went higher & higher.
I had a chance to return to TO for the Y2K era but decided not too.
Right now Gold Corp is cracking open the old Hollinger Gold Mine to open pit it.
approx 800.000 oz of gold at $1,750 per oz.
